I agree, that definately makes sense. Kevin Carter is a role model. Not every young player has the chance to play and learn from players like him. This definately helps players like Vickerson and Wright with their early struggles in the NFL. Saban isn't going to just put a whole bunch of players on the field that have "potential". Those players with "potential" have a great opportunity to learn from succesful players that have been to the Super Bowl before. I think it's similiar to what the Eagles do. For example, they had a very good secondary with Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor. But they still spent high draft picks on Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown. While Vincent and Taylor were aging, Sheppard and Brown were learning from them. Now they're the starters and not only have they replaced them, but they're a good young tandem. You can't just expect to develope young players without anyone to guide them.
