Im just going on record to say that I am not very enthused with Mueller. I think he is a bit of an idiot on what little I know. I think people are just going to react positively to change in this situation and dont even know what is what. I am not saying I do but I saw this guy on ESPN and I was not impressed. Im just giving my 2 cents here. Why was he let go at New Orleans? I am not going to judge on the basis of Saban picking this guy but a wait and see approach with a suspicious negative on this one. I think peoples desire to get rid of Spielman is a dangerous position to take on loving this guy.

Not impressed. Could have done better and could have taken some more time on this one.

Even if Mueller isn't all that great, we're already in a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Cause SPIELMAN is gone. ANd THAT, my friend, is the most important aspect of all of this. Plus he's Saban's guy. They have to see eye to eye on these things. Saban still puts the foot down and has final say, so don't worry too much.

I'm not either, but you're asking for trouble by posting this viewpoint. There is a mob mentality here concerning Spielman's ouster and the euphoria hasn't died down yet.

Saban announced Spielman's exit to the team before Spielman even arrived for work that day. His "resignation" was an orchestrated sham. Obviously, the chemistry wasn't right between those two guys and the team is better off without that tension going forward.

Spielman was miscast as a GM. He wasn't going to work well with Saban so there was no sense keeping him around in a Personnel/Scouting role, no matter how good he was at it.

Mueller...wait and see. Opinions from around the league seem mixed about how long he'll last here. But, there seems to be agreement that he is a good short term GM replacement. Something bothers me personally about the guy. Can't put my finger on it, but who cares what I think. You and I aren't qualified to judge the guy because we aren't employed in his field.

Have to trust Saban, that he chose a guy he can work with, or around.

:yeahthat:

I stated that I was shocked by this also, but after reading some stories on how Mueller will not be a yes man, and it will be more of a check and balance thing with Saban (meaning a different viewpoint), I'm a little more open to it.

It can't possibly be anything but better then we had.

Who would have been a better choice? You have your opinion on Mueller, so who would have been your pick? It seems to me that the "people in the know" think that Mueller was a solid choice.

I'm happy with it for the experience mueller brings.

A lot of the candidates mentioned in the papers and here were very young and had never been in charge. I understand the whole upside thing, bt we have a new coach, pair that with a GM, even a sounding board GM, that is brand new, and you have a recipe for trouble.

Is Mueller the next Pioli, probably not, will he make horrible decisions, probably not either. Saban has a grading system in place, Mueller will learn it and add some insight from years of experience.

but saban still has final say. and can simply ignore Muellers opinions if he wants right?

That's what I hear, but Mueller will give him other options and things to think about. Mueller won't be a yes man.

I am very pleased with Mueller. I think that we prob should of wait alittle longer on some more people, but at the end it was good. Mueller brings experience to Saban and good scouting aswell.

:yeahthat: If nothing else, this gives Saban someone who is experienced, and has a history of good moves and good evalution (For the most part) who can play devil's advocate and help Nick look at all possibilities before he comes to a decision about certain players or moves. If nothing else, it's an upgrade over Speilman, but IMO it's much more than that.

I'm pleased...

I think they can bounce off each other and challenge each other. They'll have a healthy relationship for the short time that Mueller will be here (I cant see him being here for more than 2 years).

I agree. We will see how Mueller works out after this next draft. He did some nice things in both Seattle and NO. His resume is more impressive than Spielman's. Plus Nick has the final say. Randy is there to help with the player evaluation. Much like how Belichick had Pioli.

Give the guy a chance. He hasn't even started and we're already bashing him. I do think he's a 150% better than Spielman, that's a no brainer. Could we have waited to find someone else, sure. But if Saban feels this guy might help us, let's just see what happens.

Amazing...........he was fired from New Orleans because the owner was a cheapskate, if you bother to go back and look he was responsible for a serious upgrade in talent in New Orleans during his tenure and had them closer to contending that they have ever been. One of his best moves that gets little attention was acquiring Joe Horn, who really arrived in New Orleans. He schooled Wannstedt/Speilman in acquiring two first rounders for the flake Ricky. He got a top ten pick for a washout QB in Rick Mirer, this guy can negotiate and will not get taken the way Spielman did in the 2004 draft tradeup for Vernon Carey abortion. Mueller is a much more savvy trader and negotiator than Spielman will ever live to be.

There was not a better candidate out there with experience.

One thing some of you seem to dismiss is the fact that Saban had plenty of time to get to know Rick Spielman and clearly he was not impressed.

Shouldn't we trust in the fact that Saban spent six months evaluating Rick ?

I am very pleased with this hire and very proud of the staff Nick Saban has assembled here in Miami, first time I can say that in a long long time.
