I am not a supporter of the Mueller hiring. I am not as much against Mueller as I am the manner in which he was "hired".
It does not surprise me at all how this is playing in the media. But, subtracting many of the emotional immature rants about "Spielman sucks" and "Mueller is WAY better", I for one have simply looked at it with my eyes wide open.
Fans happy with exit of Spielman.
Saying Mueller is a better GM and has had better results is not truly a fair comparison. Spielman had 1 year of GM responsibilities during the worst season in franchise history. Needless to say, fans were not truly satiated with the departure of their embattled coach. His exit did nothing to soothe the mobs. They still needed someone "fired" (beheaded). Wanny took the cowardly exit. He left DURING the impending collapse. He was not around for the aftermath. As fans, we stood admist the rubble and wanted an excuse. Wanny had left, Bates rallied the troops and Spielman was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
How many of Mueller's players are no longer with the teams he drafted or in the NFL? Now, what about Spielman's? Unfair you say? Then, now you are truly understanding my point. It's an unfair comparison in ANY light.
ESPN supporting an ex-employee.
It amazes me how angry many fans can become when ESPN/Media disses the Phins so frequently in the National Media. Yet, when they annoint "one of their own" as a superb and "right" hiring to the same disavowed franchise, fans suddenly feel "accepted" and praise the exposure.
It's almost as logical as cheering the bully for picking on someone else instead of you for a change. Not realizing, your turn is coming again, shortly.
Media is often discredited for liking the "popular" opinion. Fans are just as guilty.
Diversity Group upset.
My point with this is not a "black" or "white" one. It is merely an observation of class and respect. Saban showed no respect to Spielman as he shoved him out the back door on Friday and welcomed Mueller in the front door on Monday.
I don't care how "secretive" you want to be in this world, there is still a need for respect and class. I don't appreciate either that was shown to Spielman (my opinion of him aside).
How would you like to walk into work one day and find your stuff packed in a box and your replacement at your desk?
Everyone IS replaceable, but everyone can give respect and dignity, as well.
I was not a Wanny supporter. But, I have supported many embattled figures on this team before: Fiedler, Feeley, Spielman, etc.
When any man puts on my Dolphins uniform or shows up for work everyday to make my team better, I appreciate their efforts. When they are treated as yesterday's garbage for no reason except lack of respect, I lose respect for those making the decisions.
My hopes are Saban and Mueller WILL return this organization to greatness. As they are now working for my team. But, I don't have to agree with the philosophies or character shown by either or the one's who hired them.
