In Defense Of Sherman

Sherman's biggest problem right now is trying to deal with inconsistent QB play and working around his QB's weaknesses.

I'm sure they know about all those options, the point is we aren't using them enough. The other point is you say we can't do some of that stuff because the line is too bad, I say we need to be doing that stuff because the line is bad.

I do get your point, the same with others, and they are fair points. At least on this thread, Phans are just looking for ways for our team to be better as opposed to just the Sherman sucks mind set, a good thing.

For me, looking at the Big Picture, Sherman has overcome a whole lot in having this O within a few plays of being 5-1, and at least 4-2. We all see some questionable calls but, how many VG calls were lost due to a drop, a sack, or a hit? Many more than the questionable ones, and it's not just been the same as other teams going through the same things.

IF players execute on just a few of those mistakes, we still debate some calls but, with a completely different attitude towards Sherman.

How much of RT being inconsistent is on pressure and drops?

Most here have been ripping Sherman. They have also been ripping the OL. How does one compare with the other?

Sherman has to call plays but, there has to be some blocking for them to work. Without any blocking, he is extremely limited in what he can call with expectations of success. What is he supposed to do?

He is stuck with the players, and their play, who were given to him, as he tries to sort out what may work. It ain't easy if the team cannot block. Think he may call some different plays with some blocking? I do.

Let's roll out. Let's run more. Let's move the pocket. Let's throw screens. Great ideas, until you realize that they all require blocking, which we do not have.

What is an OC to do?

Some of the problems fall on Sherman whether we like it or not.Even though he is dealt a certain hand,he needs to figure out his offensive units weaknesses and strengths.

For me, I would still be willing to side with Sherman.

There is a side to my theory that we are back in shotgun so much because they want RT to learn to see the entire field. RT passing some tests, not passing others.

Sherman has said misdirections, rollouts, ect. take away half the field but it also makes the defense honest and these are the types of plays RT was successful with last year and stats prove it.

So Sherman needs to cut back on shotgun and run behind center. Brady does both, which confuses the defense when they run hurry up. We should do the same.
