In hindsight, do you wish Miami would have spent big on another offensive lineman?

I think we should copy what the Patriots do - designate a set percentage of the cap to spend on the o-line and go from there. So once we paid Albert we were right to not have spent big on another corn, especially when you consider Pouncey might eat up a decent chunk of the cap next season.

On offensive line we just don't have the talent to be competitive. Until we do superhuman effort is irrelevant.

I hear what you are saying, but we don't know that, yet. Let's give it some time and see our guys in a few games before we write off our entire OL for being untalented. It's not like our coaches are delusional. Benton himself has said we won't know for sure until the fur starts flying and that it may or may not take a while for our guys to gel. As I said before, we are a work in progress. Nobody (our coaches included) are denying that.

No.

Personally I think we are fine at the O-line.

Sure, the Pouncey injury sucks and hopefully he is back. But I feel everyone is getting panties in a bunch style because Shelly is having issues snapping the ball.

How I see it, team wants to see if Shelly can play C, we already know Garner can handle the position.

Team wants the best O-line play possible which SHOULD be (LT- Albert, LG- Colledge, C- Shelly, RG- D. Thomas, RT- James), Garner is a down grade from Shelly as a blocker (NOT CENTER).

If Garner slots in at C, (LT- Albert, LG- Colledge, C- Garner, RG- Shelly, RT-James)

Everyone is in a deep panic about C, when this team IMO is just trying to see if Shelly can play it or if Garner will be slotted in.

I agree. Snapping the ball isn't easy - Pouncey himself had problems at first when he moved to Center in college. We have plenty of decent new guys, and they'll be getting schooled by Albert and Pouncey, and taken to the woodshed in practice by some REALLY good defensive linemen. They'll be fine.

I'm not worried about the OL at all.

Yes.

IMHO we should have gone for one more veteran OG. Assuming that we expected Albert, Colledge (who I wanted earlier in the process) and Pouncey for 3 positions and we drafted a rookie for the 4th, we were always going to be in a rough spot with that 5th starter. If we are drafting a raw prospect like Turner (who has potential) we need to give him time to grow between 2 veterans.

I would have rather traded.up for Lewan or even Zack Martin as I think they are the better long term prospects and short term solutions ... but we didn't do that, so we are kinda forced to start our pillow fighter James. Turner and James aren't the plug and play types.

Shelley Smith is another prospect who needs polish. If they want to try him at C being flanked by Colledge and another vet that's a decent plan ... except that they don't have another vet to play RG ... and Shelley is a slow learner who never really played C.

Benton has his work cut out for him. This OL will not allow 58 sacks, but our right side looks awfully shake ... or maybe just awful. :(

Would have much rather had Dietrich - Smith and Anthony Collins for what we paid for Albert. I just don't understand why we signed only one top end starter. Especially when we still have cap money.

Here is what the Patriots do that is so successful: draft good OL.

They spent a high pick that was called reaching because the guy was a G. Logan Mankins worked out well despite his athletic and wingspan not being good enough for his draft spot. We had a chance for someone similar but we weren't interested in trading up for Zack Martin.

They drafted the tall and "mechanical" "unathletic" and "stiff" but fundamentally sound Sebastian Vollmer. They consistently make picks on OL with production over potential. Their OL does their job consistently ... and magnificently.

Exactly!! Don't panic and trust in your evaluation skills.

I would have liked 1 more experienced starter (I was hopeful we would get Zane Beatles rather than Shelley Smith), but I think our OL will be ok. Philbin said he is hoping by Tuesday or Wednesday, they will have their line set. They just need time to work together. Losing Pouncey hurts a lot, and if he was playing, I think the line would be fine. Let's just hope Pouncey isn't out long and the OL begins to gel together. I think the best combo now from left to right is Albert, Colledge, Garner, Smith, James. Turner is coming along and Dallas Thomas had a good practice today at RT, which makes him more valuable to backup at G or T. Although I am not confident in Fox as Albert's backup, he had a good practice today. It sounds like Brenner's injury is not as serious as originally thought, and he played ok last year when he had to fill in. Do we have a good OL? No. But I am confident that what we have will keep Tannehill upright a lot more than last year.

When Hickey drafted and expect James to start at RT, he should have signed a true veteran RG instead trying a 2 year player with zero game experience. This planned missteps has fail written all over it.

Come-on Hickey/Philbin sign a veteran 1 year stop gap at RG.

I felt under the circumstances of needing at least 4 new starters we needed at least 2 top free agents....we got one.

Shelly Smith may pan out, but I really felt we should have gotten a proven versatile interior guy as well as Albert.

I won't be happy if smith apple s our center. Its pretty dumb we signed him. Ol is a work in progress. We have a couple pieces and need to gel and get more talent.

i'm still wishing we had signed zane beadles at left guard...but is what it is now i guess

Should have spent less on an overrated lt and addressed either RT or LG
