Interest in Alex Smith was serious !

This franchise is going to regret the day we missed out on Smith. He would have been a 10-year starter for us and the cornerstone of everything Saban does in Miami. Now we have journeymen at the most important position and will be set back 3 years at least to become a playoff team. Until we have a young Franchise QB Saban has built ZERO. ALL great playoff-Super Bowl teams that win on a consistent basis for years are built around a QB.... NOT cornerbacks. :shakeno:

The fluke one-and-done Super Bowl winners like the Ravens and Bucs disintegrated overnight and missed the playoffs the next year BECAUSE THEY HAD NO QB. So much for the defense wins championships fantasy.

The 49ers have their next Montana. We are a long way from having our next Griese-Marino. And there is no one like that in next year's draft but Leinart and we will not be able to get him unless we trade picks and Saban won't do it. :yell:

TRADE FOR A QB!!!! GET BREES, RIVERS, RAMSEY, WHOEVER WE CAN!!!

agreed, we need a qb, but we didn't lose out on smith; we never had a chance on smith. how can the franchise regret that? regret is drafting sam bowie with michael jordan still on the board. just chill out, remember that this is year 1. it seems that they have a plan- 1) aj works out, or 2) gus holds down the fort until they can aqcuire a franchise qb. we'll be okay there some time soon- it might not be this year, but i'd bet that during saban's regime, we well get a franchise qb.

Interest in Smith `serious'

I have great respect for Nick Saban, and I know Rick Spielman."

I found that very funny.

I think Saban would have picked Smith over Brown, but he got the #2 guy on his board which I am sure he was nearly as happy with...

Saban has said it himself that Brown was #1 on his board. Said it in the interview with 790 TheTicket.

This thread is really about replacing Feeley, the whole point is if we could have replaced Feeley with Smith we would have, Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?

You take the BPA (different teams have different BPA's), position means nothing. Could Smith be a franchise QB? Yes. He could also be a bust.

I like this post but we will never know because Smith was not available by the time we picked.

And I would know this how? I don't live in FL or even the South East for that matter...

You live a lot closer to Florida then I do. Yet I have heard it, since it was posted here.
