Green Bay — It's probably safe to say that if Joe Philbin could pick one game for his Miami Dolphins not only to win but also to dominate, it would be the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.
"I wouldn't underestimate that element but he'll downplay it, though," an executive in personnel for an NFL team said Tuesday. "This is a big game for Joe Philbin. It is his former team. He's two, three years removed but he spent 10, 11 years up there."
Philbin is the first and only one of Mike McCarthy's assistant coaches to become a coach in the NFL. After a three-year stint under Mike Sherman, Philbin worked under McCarthy from 2006-'11.
With a 17-19 record in his third season, Philbin might need a winning record or playoff berth to return in 2015 for a franchise still feeling the ignominy of the bullying scandal a year ago.
As many as six starters might return Sunday as the Dolphins, a 3½-point underdog, look to build off a 38-14 rout of Oakland on Sept. 28 and a bye week.
"The Dolphins fooled some people with the win over Oakland," an NFC personnel man said. "This really is a very pedestrian team. I don't think Miami can score two touchdowns."
The scout called it for Green Bay, 31-13. He hesitated only because the Packers will have to play in forecast 85-degree weather.
"The weather will probably be their biggest opponent," the executive said. "Green Bay is hitting a rhythm and I see Miami being exposed and heading in the other direction.
"Miami can put pressure on you with the people up front but they're not very good at linebacker or in the secondary. They're trying to get some chemistry with their O-line, and their receivers are very average across the board.
"The quarterback (Ryan Tannehill) is hot and cold. They talked about starting somebody else instead of him. I don't see him as the problem as much as his supporting cast."
Another NFL personnel man forecast a Green Bay triumph by 28-24.
"The Dolphins will try to mix and match pressures, try to keep Aaron Rodgers guessing," he said. "They have to get this quarterback rattled, and with that comes some exposure in coverage.
"I think I'd lean on Aaron Rodgers putting the ball in the right place against their efforts to slow him down."
Struggling w. LBs and secondary. Check.
Receivers very average across the board. Check.
Ryan not as much the problem as is a pedestrian supporting cast. Check.
It's a very realistic view. Nothing some of us haven't been highlighting for awhile.

if it's very realistic, wonder why the assclown has to hide. that's my only beef. you want to say something, don't be a coward.
I love the cowards that like to talk ****, but then not want people to know who they are.

Here's a good portion of it, but then it gets into more detail on each part of the team.

Says anonymous message board guy...
I agree with some of that but I don't think they'll beat us by 18 points.
The reason it's anonymous is that teams typically take a VERY dim view of their employees bashing other teams on the record. If you're an NFL front office employee or scout and you come on the record and put your name on something that gives another team bulletin board material and gets your name + your team's name in the news, you are in big trouble.
