Interesting take on Fins/Packers game from Green Bay media...

then they should just do the same cookie cutter answers that all other coaches/gm's/scouts/etc say. but if you are going to call a team out, and say "I don't think they can score 2 td's", put your name on it, or don't say it at all. it's cowardly.

I don't get this at all. Some front office guy was asked by a reporter if he could provide honest, anonymous comments on another team. He obliged, presumably because it costs him nothing to offer his opinion, and also presumably because being in the good graces of someone who can destroy you in print is typically a good idea.

If he made those comments on the record, he'd be looking for a new job. This isn't hard to understand.

I agree with some of that but I don't think they'll beat us by 18 points.

The reason it's anonymous is that teams typically take a VERY dim view of their employees bashing other teams on the record. If you're an NFL front office employee or scout and you come on the record and put your name on something that gives another team bulletin board material and gets your name + your team's name in the news, you are in big trouble.

Bingo.
Though was a bit of a garish prediction(the 31-13). It is hard to take it seriously. Typically if you are giving an interview I would imaging something a bit more conservat
The Pack may very well hang 31 on us but I will be stunned if we only score 13.

What's interesting about this article? Two people were asked who wins and they each say Green Bay. I don't find that shocking. I have Miami losing by at least 10.

57 JD is right here.
We just arent used to predictions like that because we see things through the airbrushed prism of the ESPN

No it sure isn't, nor are the reasons people are objecting to it. Barry Jackson does this kind of story every week, anonymous sources and all. They're annoyed because the anonymous guy is being negative about our poor widdle team and because the anonymity denies them the opportunity to make an ad hominem attack. Hence the childish stamping of feet.

wonder how many times a reporter asks for someone's honest and anonymous opinions, and get shut down, or just tells them the same cookie cutter responses? how many articles like this one, do you see a year, from a front office guy, or from even a scout? if there are a lot of anonymous reports like this, then ok. guess i'm wrong. but I don't think I am.

either way, if i'm asked to tell my true opinions on something, and I accept, then i'm going to put my name on it. if I decline, I doubt the reporter will bash me for it, since i'm sure they're turned down more than a bed sheet at a hotel.

I will admit, I don't read much of Barry Jackson's reports. can you link me to some with these anonymous reports? if not, i'll go looking, as i'm really curious.

and you are right, I don't care for people knocking the team I root for. so sue me.

Just go through Jackson's Sports Buzz archive on the Herald blog or whatever.

He's had reports from NFC personnel guys with their opinions on stuff like the Dolphins' draft class and free agent signings, as well as Ryan Tannehill, just in the last couple of months. All anonymous.

"The Dolphins are gathering steam and momentum after their win over Oakland", an AFC personnel man said. "This is a team just beginning to stride in their new offense. I think Miami can score 3 or 4 touchdowns."

The scout called it for Miami, 32-28. He hesitated on it being that close because of the Packers defense having to play in forecast 85 degree weather.

"The weather will be a factor", the executive said. "Miami is hitting rhythm offensively and I see Green bay's defense being exposed, like they always have under Don Capers vs spread/option attacks."

"Green bay can play the middle of the field well with their linebackers, but they are not very good at defensive line or in the secondary. Despite five new starters on Miami's offensive line, they have developed a good chemistry and their running backs will expose a weak Packers run defense.

Miami Florida Journal Sentinel. Scout to remain anonymous.

I think folks wouldn't be as worked up about it if he didn't post an 18 point spread.
Vegas is 3.

Thats an out there prediction you have to admit, and it completely ignores Green Bay's inability to stop the run.
Anyway everyone has a right to their own opinion and given the stark difference of the Green Bay paper and the Miami papers anonymous sources these guys are obviously playing the crowd.

I didn't realize Dallas Thomas is the exact same size as James. Or that all of our DTs are 300+, they sure don't look like they're 300.

Cool article, wish we had somebody scouting all of our opponents like that. Our reporters are all too busy with the he said, she said stuff though. Shame.

 that Miami paper was not real. it's almost a copy of the GB article, with a dolphins twist on it.
