Interesting...

I don't see it, if he wants a new contract with us

Trade for his actual contract with no additional guarantees if he agrees.
If not... stay away

One question: is it still the case that due to Florida tax laws the player has an advantage (net income) in Florida as compared to other states?

That's very true. I jumped the gun because so many dots were connected to us on this one.

A. We need another Guard
B. The best years of his career were under Bill Lazor.
C. He can block for a QB in Ryan Tannehill that's style is identical to Nick Foles.
D. The guy is a ANIMAL
E. How often can you trade a 5th to 7th round pick for a pro bowler?

Sounds good, but the problem remains that he is under a contract that he's not happy about. So even if we are lucky enough to get him for a late round pick, we'd still have to redo his contract for more than his scheduled 5, 5.5 & 6 mil per year left on his deal. While a good player, are we willing to shell out about 7+ mil a year for 3 years on a 32 yr old guard?

I guess we will find out soon enough.

I like Mathis but he'd be a progress blocker.

Progress blocker for whom? Thomas? Brenner? Lol.

We need immediate and quality veteran help in terms of protection. We need to make the playoffs. Mathis is still quite good. I'd give them a 6th, and call it day. Get it done Hickey.

Just think... If we get Mathis, we open up to taken the best player available with our 1st round pick.

i'd give em a 5th and not think twice about it and take on the contract...but i wouldn't extend his contract...and that's where you are bringing in a malcontent...and probably killing any trade possibility...

damn good player though...would be an awesome fit...short term fix be damned...we need all the freaking oline help we can get andhe's plug and play

dont think it will happen but its a great need. Somewhat saddened by the lack of moves with the worst oline in the nfl.

I wonder if Lazor would call up Hickey and try to push this forward?

2nd rounder id do it...and id extend him also...mathis is best guard in the game right now

absofreaking lutely

and i dont give a rats ass what pff rates him...

2nd rounder for a 33 y/o guard? Hahha
and he wants more than 5 million a year. PASS

Don't worry hoops! Your heart is in the right place. The guy is still a beast at his age. If we can get him for a 6th rounder and get him to play out his contract, there will be no complaints.

i'm trying to keep my franchise qb from getting beaten down and developing bad habits...but hey this boards all about non oline position bpas in the draft even after that massacre up front in 2013...so they deserve what they get as i see it

i just want my qb to be able to last...took forever to find one worth a damn and i dont want these dopes incompetence to ruin it
