Ireland being handcuffed by ross explains the total dysfunction of the team

He only became GM last year. This is his second draft. Ireland is Ross' lightning rod. Do you think Ireland should have done the RGIII deal like Washington did. I would trade Jake Long for a high 1st round pick. Jake is gone after 2012.

Just because he had a boss doesnt mean he wasnt GM. Ireland is his own lightning rod. Had he done his job properly, he couldnt be getting bashed on. Out of 9 second round picks 7 have been misses. Thats only if you count Sean Smith and Daniel Thomas(who i consider irrelevant) as a non-miss.

Oh, and if Ireland lets our best player hit free agency, a year after trading away our other best player, then the man deserves to a lynching.

That's true, but he didn't have final say over personnel til last year.

Ok, i'll bite on this "logic". Lets hold Jeff Ireland accountable for what hes done in the past year:

He drafted a center higher then any other team in recent history.
He passed on multiple quarterbacks in a year dripping with talent.
He traded up into the second round for a oft-injured running back who fumbles and is currently second string.
He attempted to trade for a quarterback that was just signed as a backup(only reason the trade didnt go through was because Ross saw how mind boggling insane it was).
He traded away our best player.

But wait, he totally overcame that laundry list of errors by trading for Bush. Yup, sure sounds like Ireland is doing a great job with that total control!

Why do people insist on coming up with excuses for Ireland. Come to grips folks He SUCKS!!!!! He has had ample amount of chances to upgrade our QB position and at every opportunity, EVERY OPPORTUNITY, he has taken the safer option. He is as much the reason why our team sucks as much as Parcells or anyone. I would actually hold him more accountable then Parcells.
I agree with you. But remember what Ross said at his press conference after he fired Sparano. His priority is getting a Franchise Quarterback. And I think he his tying things up by waiting on Manning to make a decision before he allows Ireland to spend too much. That being said, i hate Ireland too.

His brother was the 18th player taken in the draft last year. Is that the recent history your talking about. Taking Pouncy where we did was not a reach. It's not everyday a center comes out with enough athletic talent to pull from that position. As for the QBs we passed that are dripping with talent, as you say, NONE of them had a QBR as high as Matt Moore. That means ireland got us the best QB on the market. Last season wass make or break for Sparono. Ireland had to get him the best players out there to win now. If the Dolphins didn't have talent they wouldn't have gone 6-3 at the end of the season. Besides last years QB crop isn't as good as you say. This year is much better.

Yeah, what are the odds that Reggie Bush will regress to being (in the infamous nickname given by FinsNation.com) LaMontell *****hammer?

How sad has our fan base fallen that QB rating is the measuring tool we use to justify our mediocre results. Gone are the days of Marino single handedly carrying this team into the playoffs.
The Raiders found a starting center in round 2(who also played guard, he bounced around due to injuries to the rest of the line). So while it might not be every day a athletic center declares for the draft, it certainly isnt some once in a lifetime mystical event.
Andy Dalton carried his team into the playoffs in a pro-bowl season. Hell, TJ Yates got his team to the playoffs and pulled off a win.
We did not go 6-3 last season, we went 6-10.
If Ireland willingly went along with Sparano's "win now" mentality, at the expense of not securing our quarterback position for the long term, then he deserves to be fired for poor judgement and poorer results.
Last years quarterback crop was one of the best in the last decade(and probably longer). Out of the 4 qb's taken in round one, only 1 is struggling enough to be called a bust. That doesnt include Dalton, who is clearly working for the Bengals, or Mallet, who is being groomed to be heir apparent to Brady. How this years crop is supposedly better is beyond me.
And finally, yes the superbowl rostered Steelers did draft Pouncey at 18. You do realize that 15 is higher then 18 in the draft, right?

Oh and by the way, according to you we cant credit Ireland for bringing the "talent that went 6-3" onto this team. That was Bill Parcells, remember? If we cant hold Ireland accountable for the plethora of mistakes and misjudgements that have occured, then we cant give him credit for what happened during that time either.

Not only Ireland excuses ... but made-up excuses.

I doubt Ireland is handcuffed by Ross. Ross kept him around for a reason, and it wasnt to handcuff him. Its because he felt Ireland has the ability to manage the team on his own.

Last year we blamed Ireland for handcuffing Sporano. It would be dumb to now say Ireland is the one being handcuffed.

Ireland is handcuffed by his limited mental capacity and talent.
