His brother was the 18th player taken in the draft last year. Is that the recent history your talking about. Taking Pouncy where we did was not a reach. It's not everyday a center comes out with enough athletic talent to pull from that position. As for the QBs we passed that are dripping with talent, as you say, NONE of them had a QBR as high as Matt Moore. That means ireland got us the best QB on the market. Last season wass make or break for Sparono. Ireland had to get him the best players out there to win now. If the Dolphins didn't have talent they wouldn't have gone 6-3 at the end of the season. Besides last years QB crop isn't as good as you say. This year is much better.
How sad has our fan base fallen that QB rating is the measuring tool we use to justify our mediocre results. Gone are the days of Marino single handedly carrying this team into the playoffs.
The Raiders found a starting center in round 2(who also played guard, he bounced around due to injuries to the rest of the line). So while it might not be every day a athletic center declares for the draft, it certainly isnt some once in a lifetime mystical event.
Andy Dalton carried his team into the playoffs in a pro-bowl season. Hell, TJ Yates got his team to the playoffs and pulled off a win.
We did not go 6-3 last season, we went 6-10.
If Ireland willingly went along with Sparano's "win now" mentality, at the expense of not securing our quarterback position for the long term, then he deserves to be fired for poor judgement and poorer results.
Last years quarterback crop was one of the best in the last decade(and probably longer). Out of the 4 qb's taken in round one, only 1 is struggling enough to be called a bust. That doesnt include Dalton, who is clearly working for the Bengals, or Mallet, who is being groomed to be heir apparent to Brady. How this years crop is supposedly better is beyond me.
And finally, yes the superbowl rostered Steelers did draft Pouncey at 18. You do realize that 15 is higher then 18 in the draft, right?
Oh and by the way, according to you we cant credit Ireland for bringing the "talent that went 6-3" onto this team. That was Bill Parcells, remember? If we cant hold Ireland accountable for the plethora of mistakes and misjudgements that have occured, then we cant give him credit for what happened during that time either.
