Damn I hate it when I have to agree with fin atic. Lol

Fair enough and perhaps at the end of this season that will be his fate. I personally have no problem with it! I can't quote any stats but I'm guessing on those team where the GM was replaced, more times than not, it didn't equate to greener pastures.

That's what scares me! A lot of fans seem to think that by getting rid of Ireland we automatically are going to get something better. IMO, it more likely that we revert as a team than get propelled forward with a new GM coming in.

Here's probably a simpler way of looking at it. Of the teams in the league that fans admire, that "dream" roster/coaching staff etc that they wish was there own. How many of them are ran by newly acquired GMs vs. GMs that have been there for awhile?

Further for all the "sucky" teams how many of them have had a revolving door at GMs. Because, after all it's the GMs fault and the "next one" will be better.

I disagree with anyone who says getting rid of Ireland is bad because we don't know if the next GM will be better. The GMs are paid good money to be right with talent evaluation. Ireland hasn't been. I would call his performance dismal to be honest.

No but the fir Ireland..our team sucks..Tannehill sucks..I hate our new logo..Dawn Aponte sucks... (hmm..well that's not actually a bad thing) will come running in with all their temple dresses on singing down with Ireland..down with Philbin

And you point out what I know to be the great failure of fan analysis: it's either all-or-nothing (Tannehill sux, Philbin sux, etc.) or microanalysis without thought to how it fits into the big picture.

Here's the big picture on Ireland's roster-building, focusing on the O-Line:
  • 9 draft picks to the unit since 2008. NINE. That's almost enough to stock each position two-deep.
  • That includes two 1st-rounders.
  • Literally dozens of free agents, and the only one who has stuck for any significant length of time is Nate Garner.
  • Among those free agents are Tyson Clabo and Marc Colombo. MARC COLOMBO.

And for all that, here's the net result: 11-5, 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, 7-9, and now this year, it could be 8-8 or—at best—9-7. Or, use the definition of the Ireland apologists and say that he was not fully in charge until after the third year of The Curse of Parcells: then it's 6-10, 7-9, and this year. Either way, that is the textbook definition of mediocrity. After 6 years of roster-building, the net result is a season in which our young Quarterback is finally coming into his own despite being sacked a team-record 59 times this season, including yesterday's 7.

On a day in which playoff hopes are high, and coming off a three-game streak to rival the best 3 games under his tenure, the team allowed 7 sacks, their QB only completed 10 of 37 passes and achieved a total 103 yards of offense—and scored ZERO points. It was a defining game for a team with "playoff hopes," and this is how the team defined itself: as a team that gets shut out by a 5-9 team.

It's defined by the net results.

It isn't about whether this pick or that in particular has been good or bad; it's about the body of work.

The Dion Jordan pick has been getting destroyed on the radio today (WQAM). You've gotten next-to-nothing for the 3rd overall pick in the draft. We could've stayed where we were or just traded up a bit and got that lineman for SD (the guy from Alabama) who's a freakin' beast and playing better than any other rookie lineman. I mean, I like Jordan's potential but he's never been a great pass-rusher, and that's what we drafted him for. We bought a square peg and then tried to jam it into a round hole. Typical Jeff Ireland.

I've tried to be positive, at various times, about Jordan. When he's flashed it's been awesome and I do think, maybe, down the line, he could be a great outside linebacker and do things like blitz or cover TEs and stuff RBs in the flat and stuff. But he lacks the strength to take on good left tackles on a regular basis.

Why spend money on Wallace and Gibson and Grimes and all these guys for short-term surge and then completely waste your 1st round pick (and a 2nd round pick now) for a guy that MIGHT be a special player in 2014 and probably further in the future than that. I said it back in April. What's the F'n plan here? I thought 2013 was a 'going for it' year.

Ireland is in over his head. In year six he finally decides to take advantage of a teams ability to extend talent rather than let them hit the free agency market. Plus, we went into the season with $22 million sitting in the bank, only 5 teams had more than $20 million in cap space, four of them just hired new staffs--and us. I keep harping on it but I feel like I'm the only one that sees that money as one or two good players that could have made a big difference this season. Is it like an out of sight out of mind thing? Couple that with the fact that we spent less on offense than every team in the league (except Oakland who was totally cap strapped) and it should be pretty evident why we suck so bad on offense.

The worst part is we caught a ton of breaks with the schedule and could have easily won 12 or 13 games this season.

This comes up often(like...during every single Ireland discussion), so lets roll up our sleeves and deal with it right now. Ireland was hired in 2008. You make a list of teams that have torn down their team by constantly rotating Gm's(or coaches who have roster control) since that year. And by "revolving door", lets say they've hired..2, 3 new guys in 6 seasons, is that fair? I'll make a list of teams who have successfully turned their teams around(and lets say "successfully" means being within a game or two of this years Dolphins). And to give you even more of an advantage, i'll limit my list to the past 2 years.

Teams that have "successfully" turned it around:
Chiefs
Colts
Cardinals
Eagles
Panthers
Rams
Chargers
Bears
****ing Jets

All of those teams can finish at 8-8 or better. Note, this list does not include teams that are heading in a better direction then where they were under the previous regime, such as the Jags and Raiders. Also its worth mentioning that this list does not include teams that have turned into powerhouses by hiring the right new people, such as the Broncos, 49'ers, and Seahawks, as those teams happened to have made changes over 2 years ago...but still after Miami hired Jeff Ireland.

You can never fear getting rid of a inadequate employee simply because "it could be worse". This team wont be the best until we insist on having the best.

I await your list.

How is that possible? I am not disagreeing with it but we signed wallace, hartline, gibson, keller, clabo, garner, m. moore and a few others. Just seems like we spent heavy on offense this year.

Even if you could convince me somehow that Ireland is above average he's just too toxic at this point. There was a thread the other day where Grime's wife was seemingly upset with Ireland on twitter over an insulting offer and a bunch of us went off but it turned out somebody took something she said out of context and she was actually pissed at a fan for not thinking Grimes deserved to be in the probowl. The point is it was totally believable to me that he would piss Grimes off during the season with an offer using his ridiculous negotiation tactics. He gets no benefit of the doubt from me anymore, I just can't trust anything he does and as a fan that would like to go see a live game or two thats a problem. Oh we signed Wallace? Well I wanted him signed but if Ireland thought it was a good signing then he'll probably suck...

I think what you expect out of a GM is growth. And when the team is basically non-stop mediocre to poor, you have to question if it is working. Sure we beat the Pats. But we also got swept by Buffalo and routed by Tampa Bay. Which team is it? I think you can't take it game by game and say we beat this team or that team or lost. You have to take the team as a whole and say do we have the talent and is it moving the right direction? I am concerned that Ireland for some unexplained reason, does not really address need areas in off season. We knew the OLine was an issue and he did nothing to solve it. How can this be? We had a starting RB in Bush who wanted to stay, but we cut him and he has starred for Detroit. His drafts have not yielded a single bonafide Pro Bowl player much less several impact starters. He has hit on a few FAs. So the net result? Few hits, many misses equal a team that is inconsistent, and loses badly when the match ups work against them. Championship teams win more than they lose. We are not one of those teams and he has been ineffective and getting us there. I am not really buying the coaching blame here. Do we think our scheme is so unique or bad? That what we run is vastly different than other team? No the difference is the talent level of the players executing the scheme. We just got beat at every position by a Buffalo team that is superior than we are on both lines. Ireland's formula does not work. His standards of what make good players are not true, and he can not spot talent. He has to go.

We have some really bad players on this team, we have some average players on this team and we have some pretty good players on this team but where are the great players on this team? Wake? Not so much this year. Grimes? He's played very well but will he be here next year?

This team lacks difference makers. People are content with the hartlines and the clays and they are pretty good players but elite talent wins in this league. Not pretty good talent. Keenan Allen, who many were clamoring for, would of looked real good on our team. Instead we pay big money to players, who while aren't bad, they certainly aren't top end players at their position.

really harry? lets talk about the dallas cowboys and the detroit lions and their awesome talent.

Although many of you want to excuse the poor coaching and execution yesterday by blaming Ireland, we actually lost yesterday because of the players, coaches, and GM yesterday. I'm not defending Ireland, but if a player plays well one week and then fails the next, there's another variable in the equation besides the GM. Ireland may suck, but the loss yesterday isn't on him nearly as much as it is on the coaches and players.
