Nothing new here, but it's dirty laundry day.
Dansby out, Wheeler in, by itself, probably cost us this season. You could totally sense Philbin's utter contempt for the 'veteran's council' and now we have no leaders. The only thing close are Hartline and Incognito. Great job, brain trust.

So you're basing this off the fact they cut one player.

I guess a lot of NFL teams must hate veterans since they cost more money and have more mileage.

The OP is right in the sense that his theory is vets were let go that had strong dissenting opinions and were replaced by yes men. It's one thing to cut players who had mileage, it's another to cut for reasons of vocalizing disagreement. This team was rudderless all year and lacked veteran leadership.

They did it to everyone on last year's leadership council - Long, Bush, Dansby - all gone. None of their replacements have played better than they did.

The Dansby Wheeler thing really stings, and along does too, considering the vacuum that was left.
Ireland's habit of creating monster vacuums is infuriating. The Vontae Davis throw-away is sickening too. Didn't Davis' brother just get shot to death in early 2012? Maybe you cut the guy a little slack? Philbin seems like a douche and the team suffers, and we, the fans suffer the most.

'Along' I meant Long.

I think the players get a little to damn greedy myself.

The trouble with Philbin is he thinks he's coaching in the late 1960's and he's taking on a Vince Lombardi "no nonsense" attitude". I genuinely believe he is a good X's and O's head coach but he is not a born leader. He's an emotionless robot on the sideline. Look at the successful coaches over the last few years.... Jim Harbough, John Harbough, Pete Carrol, Tom Coughlin, Sean Payton, Belichick etc.... these guys are leaders and even though some of them have won superbowls and others haven't their players constantly play tough for them and they feed off of their coaches enthusiasm on the sideline. The camera pans to Philbin on the sideline and if you didn't know the score you would have no idea if they were up by 20 or down by 20... you get nothing. People have commented on his post game locker room speeches and I can honestly say they were very scripted and very awkward.... it should just flow with emotion but it doesn't. You shouldn't need a coach to fire up his players but again this isn't 1967 anymore and today's athletes are not the same as they were 40 years ago.... Philbin needs to adapt or he's going to have a short carer as a head coach.

Kind of a bipolar philosophy but believeable.

Nothing like cutting the veterans who are leaders in the lockerrooom and speak out on what they feel is best for the team . . . yet don't bother to play your youngsters in favor of veteran players.

Yea, it's believeable

I agree with OP. Imagine if this team had Reggie Bush this season. Or Dansby/Burnett in place of the dread heads. Could've used Jake Long over the trash we had out there at LT.

Hey, can you imagine having Brandon Marshall and his 100 receptions/1300 yards out there over a Ginn clone? How about Fasano to block over an injury prone TE and a "H-back"? You think we could've used Vontae Davis in the secondary over Jimmy Wilson and Nolan Carroll? Or Sean Smith?

I'm not saying it was realistic to keep ALL these guys, but to clean them out and replace them with inferior players, laughable.

Wheeler is Garbage.

If 2014 is going to be any different. Please take out the trash. Daniel Thomas, Michael Egnew, Phillip Wheeler, and Nolan Carroll would be a good start.

The lack of leadership from the players and more importantly from the head coach was a much bigger impact on the end result than the talent on the field. This team had plenty of talent to at least get a wildcard spot

That's exactly my point, they led with their play and their leadership in the lockerroom.

Spot on. Philbin wanted boy scouts and yes men.

So how do you explain Incognito being on the team when it was reported Philbin wanted him cut? Philbin didn't have the power to get rid of one piece of **** guard but he's the one that jettisoned all of the higher profile troublemakers? Sorry, I don't buy it.
