One of those changes is a likely switch to the 4-3 defense. Ireland said he told his scouts shortly after Tony Sparano was fired in December to start looking at 4-3 personnel. A few players will have to be moved around – Cameron Wake back to defensive end, perhaps Koa Misi to middle linebacker – but Ireland said “it’s not going to be that big of a transition.”

actually not that surprising considering. Ireland didn't really work for a 3-4 guy until Parcells got to Dallas. Philbin also has only been around the 3-4 since 2009.

I don't really have a preference and nowadays I don't think one is really better than the other now that the 4-3 guys are starting to become more blitz happy again.

Misi is not a MLB. He is too soft IMHO.

We need a tackling machine like Zack Thomas. A heat seeking wrecking ball MLB.

We will need a MLB(draft) and a cover corner to replace Sean Smith. Maybe Jimmy Wilson?

Pretty much the same needs one way or the other... Pass rusher, DB help....

The only reason I lean towards the 4-3 is it reminds me of the JT and Zach Thomas days...either way I don't really care.

Where do Burnett and Dansby fit into a 4-3? Obviously Lbers but which spots fits them the best?

As of right now, I'd put Burnett at SLB, Dansby in the middle and Misi at WLB... But in a perfect world you'd have Dansby and Burnett on the out-side and look to fill the MLB spot... my 2 cents...

I'm glad Philbin is going with what he believes works, not merely the easiest route in fixing this team. I'm actually excited to see the 4-3 back in Miami...we will definitely need a few defensive ends via the draft or free agency. I could see Dansby playing the MIKE and Burnett playing the WILL, leaving Misi to play the SAM. For example, the Giants run:

SAM: Mathias Kiwanuka (6-3, 265 lbs.)
MIKE: Chase Blackburn (6-4, 245 lbs.)
WILL: Michael Boley (6-3, 230 lbs.)

Our version could be:

SAM: Koa Misi (6-3, 255 lbs.)
MIKE: Karlos Dansby (6-4, 250 lbs.)
WILL: Kevin Burnett (6-3, 240 lbs.)

Also, Soliai will be gone...he's a much better fit for 3-4 than a 4-3. That leaves Starks and Odrick at DT for us, with Wake filling in at RE. We'll need some DE's, and some depth for sure. McDaniel fills in behind Odrick, and a vet will be needed behind Starks for depth purposes.

Again, I'm really excited to see this team go back to the 4-3 and I don't think it will be too painful of a transition because of the versatility of the players we currently have!
