Ireland was wrong about……

LT is the 2nd most important position on a team

That is completely false. You can win it all with an average LT, give me a Superbowl winning squad the past 10 seasons who has had an elite, top 5 LT? It's definitely vital to your QB's success but far from the 2nd most important position.

then it was the coaching???? Why does our linemen go to other teams and do good, or where good with other teams and with us play poorly??? How long have we seen that in Miami with our offensive line, and by the way, i believe Ireland has done ok, and a very good job with the cap.

Honestly, we've seen that happen with just about every position there is lol. Offense, defense, now even with the damn Special Teams unit (Carpenter balling for Buffalo while we're stuck with Sturgis) lol. :err:

There. you found the answer. It is no secret that historically our coachings STAFFS could not coach up players. This is inherent in a large number of players sucking here, leaving and finding some success elsewhere.

for the 99,998,378,342nd time. Jake Long took LESS money with the Rams. Ireland and Miami offered him MORE money than any other team...on 2 occasions!

Prior to Week 1 of the 2012 season he offered him a contract that would have made him the highest paid offensive linemen in NFL history....Jake said no. Then come this March in free agency, Ireland offered Jake MORE money than the Rams did, Jake said no.

What more can ya do? The guy didn't want to be here. He used Miami's offer to get more money out of another team.
not according to this:

"Long takes best deal available, becomes a Ram"

The hatred for Ireland is fine, but at the least know b the facts of the situation..

What are the facts then? There is no proof we offered him more money and even if we did it doesn't mean anything because the amount of guaranteed money is the most important fact. There may have been other unknown factors too such as the length of the term and other details that were important to Long. I don't believe for a second that Long was just using us to get a better deal with the Rams, I believe it truly was a bidding war for his services.

It also supports the theory that he knew of issues with Incognito and it was easier to just depart to another team.

The problem is that Ireland thought that Jonathan Martin could step on and there would be little to no drop off!!! How's that decision working out for him? Talk about backing up a tractor trailor over your private parts!!!!! Ouch!!!!!! I doubt Jake is really a top 5 Left Tackle. That rating comes off of a previous skill level and reputation but he seems to be playing very well in St. Louis. Ireland doesn't get a pass on his handling of Jake Long in my book. He should have been given more respect and locked up earlier rather than playing games with him. Poorly handled by Ireland imo. While I'm on this subject we're a much better team with Reggie Bush and that was another epic fail by Ireland. You don't jettison exciting playmakers who happen to also be high character team leaders. If the plan was to let these Pro Bowl players go why wasn't a trade put together so we don't lose them and get NOTHING in return? Don't they cover that in GM 101??!! Bad bargain all around especially in light of this Martin thing blowing up right in the teams face. Could have and should have been handled better. Someone has to answer for these high profile failures= Jeff Irelands' gone.

You can also win it all with a average QB, does that mean the QB is not the most important spot on a team? How about last Yr when our own Bryant Mckinnie was the starting LT for the Ravens, he was the 7th overall pick in 2002 by the Viking......June of last yr, out of 32 teams 20 teams have a LT that was drafted in the first round.....

Why do you think it was such a blunder for Ireland to go into the season with Martin as his LT, knowing the guy was not mental stable and his play was marginal at best....

Look at all the successful teams, the one thing they all have is a solid OL and DL...take the Pats for instance, they let the skill players walk after the season but they will not let Brady have a bull**** line in front of him...they are able to run the ball and pass protect....the Jets of a few yrs ago went to the championship game because of there D and running game.....

Does the absence of a top 10 Left Tackle disqualifies you from winning a Super Bowl? of course not but If you have the opportunity to get one and you don't have one, you get him..

Jake long is a Ram due to his abject greed, are we not at the point in the season where he historically gets injured. St Louis can have him and Fisher as well.

All options were ****ty imo.
Sign Long to a big contract? ****.
Trade for fat Albert and sign him to a big contract? ****.
Trade up and take a LT at 3? ****.
Sign one or more the the washed up free agent Tackles to short term deals? ****.

All of those options were **** but each and every one was still better than what we ended up doing. My problem is we shouldn't be in the position to have to decide between a bunch of ****ty options in the first place and if you end up there at least make the right ****ty decision.

It is not just greed. It is also a job. and maybe winning was important to him and the overall environment. Stuff only he can know.
Payton Manning is greedy too right? Or did winning mean something to him? Very black and white comments sometimes around here. Don't mean you personally.

The days of putting tons of money into the O-line is pure crap. You should not be paying someone $8M when hes not even touching the ball at any point in the game. Spend the money on people who score TDs. That's how you win in the NFL.

Sounds like ball watcher talk. Football 101, if your OL is hot stinky garbage your team's got little to no chance to win. Clearly it is true that Offensive Linemen are NOT play makers....but the OL allows play makers to make plays. It is true that Offensive Linemen do NOT run for TDs....but the OL allows RBs to run for TDs. It is true that Offensive Linemen do NOT pass for TDs....but the OL allows QBs to step up in a pocket to pass for TDs. It is true that Offensive Linemen do NOT catch passes for TDs....but the OL allows WRs time to run their routes to catch TDs. Bottom-line, it's time to show me da BEEF in the 2014 draft, get some better offensive linemen to let da Phinz play makers make plays IMHO. Of course the ball watchers failed football 101 so they do not know how important the OL is.......like that Phinz beat writer "Hyde" he's Captain ball watcher...he has no football IQ IMHO
