Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has been suspended six games and fined $500,000 after pleading guilty to one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The NFL announced the penalties Tuesday, stating that Irsay violated the league's personal conduct policy. The suspension takes effect at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, and Irsay will be eligible to return after Indianapolis' game against the Houston Texans on Oct. 9.

Guess it wasn't the slap on the wrist the NFLPA was expecting. I'm sure Mike Florio will make it out to be though cause he's such an instigator.

$500k is pocket change for him and big deal he has to watch 6 games at home.

$500,000.00 isn't pocket change for anyone.

Not even for drug addled dilettantes who inherited all of their wealth.

It's not, but if you really want to think it is, that's fine by me. You also think Mark Sanchez is a good quarterback.

what does Mark Sanchez have to do w/ this discussion? $500k is nothing for someone like Irsay. it is a slap on the wrist.

Nothing if you go by subject. But if you want to point to a person's imperfect behavioral, social and mental history even unrelated subjects could help establish a pattern.
In this case it shows a pattern of your flawed thought process.

Actually it shows I can think for myself and I don't follow the crowd like so many do. I am also right on Sanchez and anyone who knows anything about this game would agree.

So what does a 6 game suspension even do for the owner?

Oh, he can't attend 6 games?

$500K? I'm sure he snorts that up his nose in a month.

NFL owners are billionaires and 500K is a minimal impact on their wealth. It's essentially a slap on the wrist. Ndamkungh Suh is one fine away from 500K which is far more significant to him than Irsay.

The punishment should have included draft pick(s). Owners are supposed to be held to a higher standard. Obviously Goodell doesn't have the gonads to bring the hammer down on one of his bosses the same way he does on his subordinates.

Curious, what punishment would be enough for you? They can't exactly force him to do prison time.

I cant recall for certain, but wasnt Irsay ordered to stay away from the Colts while he received drug treatment? If so, he apparently broke that:

The franchise ran fine while Irsay, who later admitted he still had a little hand in things, was getting rehabilitation treatment following his arrest.

Irsay was arrested for a DUI. He should be thankful he didnt kill anyone. When the Broncos had executives get arrested for drunk driving they suspended one for a month and another indefinitely without pay. Meanwhile Irsay, much higher than an executive and having a suspicious suitcase full of cash, gets a mere 2 weeks longer? And they announce the suspension on the same day they hand Wes Welker suspension thats going to cost him far more than Irsay? Hell, theres a legitimate chance that Irsay was on his way to pick up amphetamines himself when he was pulled over.

Yes, this is a slap on the wrist. Roger Goodell fought for the ability to punish anyone who embarrasses the league even if they dont get charged with a crime. Irsay was charged and had some questionable **** going on(remember, a female friend of his died from overdose in an apartment that was under Irsay's name a month or so before his arrest). He should be held to a higher standard, if for no other reason than to shut down the players association when they bitch about the hypocrisy of punishments the league hands out.
If Goodell didnt want to take away draft picks, then he at least should have suspended Irsay for a full calender year. At the very least, his fine should have been equivalent to what a franchise quarterback would lose if they were suspended 6 games. As it is, this fine doesnt even come close to what Ben Roethlisberger lost when he was suspended 4 games.

I don't know the answer to that but what he got was a slap on the wrist. Looks tough on the surface but in reality isn't.
