Is 9-7 a playoff birth?

I would love to get in and play Indy again in the first round. One more game to build up a Luck/Tannehill rivalry!

Yes and no. I think the final wild card will indeed be 9-7.

But no, 9-7 will not guarantee us a wildcard spot. There are a lot of teams in the mix, us, New York, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, San Diego, Oakland, and Tennessee. It is inevitable that some tank, but if any of those goes on a real tear then we could be on the outside looking in. We lost to Baltimore and still have to play Pittsburgh once and New York twice. This last spot is going to be tight.

Our schedule isn't looking good. We play a bunch of teams who are hitting their strides in New England , Buffalo, Carolina, and Pittsburgh. We really need to sweep the Jets, which we rarely do. This will be a nail biter for sure if we stay in the playoff hunt.

But its better than the Sparano year and being eliminated by week 5.

If the Phins make the playoffs, they deserve to be there. If they don't, they don't. No need to overthink it.

I absolutely agree. If we make it our late season run will have been impressive. We have played New England close and would have won if the refs had not intervened with B.S. calls. We beat Indy in Indy. We beat Cincinnati. The only team that makes me think we have no chance against is Denver, and even Peyton gets upset in the playoffs.

Green bay won a Super Bowl barely making the playoffs at 9-7. The Giants won a Super Bowl barely making ng the playoffs at 9-7. It definitely is possible. IF we make the playoffs, it is no certainty that we are one and done. This isn't a Bill Parcels team.

At 9-7 it will be close. A bunch of teams battling for spots. I think 10-6 will get you in. We could end up 9-7 and be like 2005 again and miss out.

It's very likely that if the Dolphins finish 9-7, they will be the #6 seed in the AFC. The only realistic situation in which Miami goes 9-7 and misses that 6 seed is if the Jets sweep the Dolphins, or if Baltimore goes on an absolute tear.

The Jets can sweep the Dolphins...i HIGHLY doubt it, but Baltimore will NOT go on a tear..

9-7 I think will do it, but there will probably be multiple teams there, including one or more of the sub .500 teams that have the potential to turn on the light, and it depends on who holds the right tiebreakers. If we manage to take care of business against the Jets (honestly I'm expecting a split), we need two other games to make it happen because that will give us a leg up against them head to head. I wouldn't expect us to steal more than one from Carolina, NE, and Pittsburgh (who with ref help always find a way to beat us).

It's hard to look at a situation where you are essentially tied with a team you play twice for the last playoff spot and think you don't have a shot to make it happen. But it's hard to look at this team's body of work over the season and think that they should be the one that comes out on top.

IDK, We just never play consistently well enough. I expect us to lose to Carolina and NE and then probably win 2-3 of the other 4. This leaves us 8-8 or 7-9. I think we have to steal one from the Pats or Panthers to make the playoffs. It's been a LONG time since we've won a big game when it really mattered.

Maybe it's just my brain protecting my heart but I don't see the playoffs for a team that lost 5 out of 6 with some really bad loses. Hope I'm wrong because it's become pretty pathetic when the only thing we've done consistently is going 7-9.

There's not a team in the mix that doesn't have a similar story though, that's what makes the whole setup rather intriguing.

So what you're saying OP is that we have a chance to make the playoffs but we don't belong there? Come on if we make the playoffs I don't care if we belong or not. Its nice to make the playoffs. Remember the Broncos made the playoffs with Tebow and they didn't belong but yet beat the Steelers.

You do know that we could of easily beaten the Bill while the jets got destroyed by them. It's football. Any team can beat any team. We lost to the saints yet Jets beat them. We beat the Bengals yet Jets lost by alot lol.

I think it is depressing to know that all we had to do was beat Tampa and as of now we would have that 6th spot and be in the drivers seat the rest of the way with a little cushion
