Is Bua being wasted?

I may be in the minority, but I think he can p[lay SS in this league. He was a legit day two safety prospect when we picked him in the fifth and moved him to LB.

He will never be a ballhawking safety, but he should be able to play well inside the box and we all know he knows how to tackle.

I think he will be used primarily on special teams. He could see some duty as a linebacker but I believe he does not fit the "Saban" type of player in that position. Keep him as a special teams demon.

I was very excited about the prospect of putting some pounds on Tony Bua and letting him learn the linebacker position.

I'm not excited about him at the safety position.

He's a fast linebacker and a slow safety, so it doesn't make sense to me.

I really don't think he'll ever crack into the game at this position and he'll just live on Special Teams for his career.

Should I just trust Nick?

Is he faster than I think?

What's the logic here?

Are you kidding us? You are worried about a late-round, special teams ace....I think that I'll trust Nick Saban. Bua was great on special teams and may become a great/good positional player but asking if the Dolphins are "wasting" him is a little much.

How can you see Bua playing LB in the 3-4? Pope & Moore are better LB's than Bua and they may not even be around because they may not fit the system.

The Bua to safety move is his best shot at playing on a consistent basis. Special teams is where he'll continue to make his mark. This situation is even lower on the radar than Saban's lack of Little Debbie snack cakes!

Bua is a very undersized LB. He can hit for sure but he will get used like a ten cent hooker if you put him at LB. If he can learn the position(and I think Mel Phillips can teach him) he can be a good Safety. His claim to fame this year and maybe for the next several years will be a special teams demon which should keep him on Saban's good side and our team. Has to show he can stay healthy first though.

He might be faster as a LB, but remember that the small quick LBs are not the type of LBs required by Sabans D. He wants big guys that can take on blockers. The Wanny D (actually the JJ D) focused all the movement to the MLB and needed a quick guy to shoot the gaps and go after the ball carrier. Saban's LBs FILL the gaps and take on OL and TEs (the inside guy/guys). Bua really only fits Saban's D as a SS...If he is too slow to be effective, he will just be a special teamer or move on to another team that utilizes the same scheme as Wanny did...

I too disagree with most of the posts here. Why will he not be successful at SS. We have to wait and see. He had fine speed for SS. We are not playing cover 2 man with the SS and FS basically playing the saftey from the deep ball. We are going to have our FS playing behind the SS so the SS will be like a what we used to call the Hawk. He has freedom and is used more in run support and crossing patterns. This should fit him perfectly he will be an important piece as the season moves on.

Hell yeah he's being wasted! He could be out on the field as a valuable starter at safety, instead we're using him primarily for speical teams. I think we've all seen what he can do there. Translate that to the real game and expect the same. Guarantee.

Would love for Bua to develop into the starting SS. While he may not have the coverage abilities right now, starter Tebucky Jones isn't great in coverage either.

Even if he doesn't become a starter, Bua will still be great on special teams and possibly some special situations (nickel LB, goaline S).

ehhh. With the exception of posting a link to an article, everything here is an opinion. You are basically telling him that since he doesn't agree with you he should preface everything with "I know I'm a dumb-ss, but...."

I don't agree with his oozing dislike for Saban, unless Saban pulls a Wanny. That doesn't seem possible unless he joins a porn club, lengthens his upper lip, grows a huge mustache, starts hanging lobster traps from ceilings, repeats himself constantly, and drafts reach-players at positions where we have no needs.
