Is Chad Henne on a Short Leash?

We'll see what happens when the bullets start flying and the games are for real. I'm not ready to annoint or condem anyone until then. However, if Henne struggles early, who knows what Sparano may do.

Snap out of it folks.. This is what myself and Fish-Head were just talking about less than 2 days ago...

It's not Henne you have to worry about not being able to handle Pennington looking over his shoulder.. The question is whether or not the people making the decisions can handle it.. And hold off on hitting the 'easy' button when the young quarterback is struggling in favor of a few token wins...

You're going to pay the price one way or the other....

They need to trade Pennington before the deadline... Otherwise, just go ahead and start Pennington, get your 9-10 wins and 1st round playoff beatdown out of the way... and hope a quarterback falls to you in the latter part of the 1st round next year.

This isn't a video game where the "90" QB rating for your backup quarterback looks good... this is real life.. and when your 'backup' QB is better than your starter in REAL football and all the players know it, you've got problems...

I said it a while back.... things aren't NEARLY as rosy as everyone thinks they are....

Bang on. Anyone who thinks that they are gonna be patient with Henne needs to give their head a shake... Sparano's a** is on the line as is BP's REP.

i don't agree that the backup qb is better than the starter...not at all

if henne does get the hook for penny go ahead and chalk up losses in both jets games, at cincinatti, at baltimore, against pittsburgh i'm sure i'm missing a few

basically any defense worth its salt...

That would make no sense. The young QB that showed many good qualities last year, who has the best arm to stretch the field on the team, who will now have a premeir receiver might be sat down because in preseason he was inconsistant in short work in each game? No, he is not on a short leash.

Chad Henne last year in many games would start to play well after a few series, but once he picked it up, he did a great job for a 1st year starter.

Does he need to play better? Yes..... Does he need to be more consistant? Of course....Will he get better as the season goes along. Without a doubt.

Chad right now is hindered with getting in better sync with his receivers (Especially with his new superstar wr), learning the offense better(including going through all his progressions better), and needs to do this with receivers dropping balls, no running game,O-line continues to have leaks, and is trying not to force anything.

Henne is still learning, the O-line will eventually get better (Don't know how much better though), the running game will wake up once the season starts, like every other year, and Chad will get better. As long as the defense starts to show some effectiveness, Henne will be alright.

Seen this coming once they resigned Penny. You can't expect a 12 gm starter to take a team by the horns when you got a backup intentional or unintentionally still leading from the sidelines.

Balt and Atl rode out a rookie season and sophomore slumps with their respective young qbs, all the while not bringing in a 10 yr vet to mentor,or what ever bs reason some like to use for the situation in MIA. "I lead and win games". Penny said shortly after resigning.

If its Henne's team you commit, you don't half *** it.

People here want their man crush Penny starting or the future 'greatness' in White playing. The FO has made a terrible mistake on how to use/groom a young qb. A mistake that might end up causing the loss of another 2nd round pick.

what do you mean you and fishy?? I'm the one that started the friggin "Resigning Pennington: Blessing or Curse?" thread!

We'll see what happens when the team actually puts a game plan together and the starters take 85% of the snaps together before playing a game.

i know if i was henne and they pulled me early this year i'd be looking to get the hell out of here at the end of this season...henne has earned the right with his play last year to be given a fair look...but sparano is so far up pennys *** its not funny...

the guy that means squat for our long term future...

Not necessarily. I know Ross has been the quintessential "hands off" owner so far but with his Henne/Marino out-on-a-shaky-limb statement, he's already invested in his fellow Michigan alum's success; I can easily see him interceding and as far as the FO is concerned, letting the chips fall where they may (especially with Carl Peterson..ugh.. being his paisano.).

It's useless.... they won't listen.. They think it's a video game where all that matters is "I have 2 starter caliber QB's"....

You can't be the leader of 52 other men when YOUR leader is over there standing on the sidelines playing Mr. Miyagi...

Chad Henne doesn't need some 10 year vet there to hold his hand and walk him across the street anymore... it's either his team and you commit 100% to it.... or you don't...

How the hell are the players supposed to commit to Henne when the coaching staff won't even prove to them that's the case from their end?

Get this through your heads folks.... there are advantages and consequences to the current QB situation...

The advantage is that you have a proven guy behind him who can win you a few token games... the consequences are that the team knows the leader isn't the guy that's penciled in as #1 on the depth chart...

I mean, how obvious does it have to be...

what do you mean you and fishy?? I'm the one that started the friggin "Resigning Pennington: Blessing or Curse?" thread!

I said this months ago after Penny's resigning and was promptly given the normal line of 'mentor' 'qb coach' lines.

You started the thread.... Me and Fish-Tail talked about it...

However, I said things weren't as rosy as everyone thinks LONG before the season even started.... BobDole and Hoops know what I'm talking about...

I made this statement also months ago concerning Henne and was told my fan card should be pulled.
