Is Chad Henne on a Short Leash?

you may be right about pennington not taking us to where we want to go! neither will henne!!! pennington stills gives this team a better chance to win, week in, and week out.

So at what point do you invest in the future? Winning now with a qb whose on the downside of his career does little for the future of the team.

Why is it other teams, teams that have won SB's this decade, can get behind their rookis and take their lumps. But some MIA fans are content with the false hope of a 08 team led by the ultimate smoke and mirrors qb?

I guess teams like Balt and Atl just don't get it.

Pennington was 0-3 last year before he was done. Henne was 7-6 with the same team. I don't think Pennington gives this team a better chance to win, not now. Pennington's limitations, his durability, the fact that his shoulder isn't 100% makes him more of a liability than an asset as a starter right now.

watching tape has shown me that chad pennington isnt as accurate as he used to be... he has thrown the ball too low, without any velocity, and lives off those touch passes. I seen alot of plays, just in preseason, where the reciever bails him out.

now, chad henne has shown great accuracy... he is throwing the ball before the break, with great ball placement... I can honestly say that he is part of a select few quarterbacks that can fit the ball into any window. The only problem im seeing with him is in the redzone. that pass to brandon marshall should of been caught but the ball got a little bit away from him. he doesnt have complete confidence in his recievers and is some what afraid of making a mistake.

you see chad pennington puts all of his faith in his reciever because he has to. chad henne tries to make everything happen/perfect for the play to happen.. once henne gets his faith in his recievers in check, its over!

It's useless.... they won't listen.. They think it's a video game where all that matters is "I have 2 starter caliber QB's"....

You can't be the leader of 52 other men when YOUR leader is over there standing on the sidelines playing Mr. Miyagi...

Chad Henne doesn't need some 10 year vet there to hold his hand and walk him across the street anymore... it's either his team and you commit 100% to it.... or you don't...

How the hell are the players supposed to commit to Henne when the coaching staff won't even prove to them that's the case from their end?

Get this through your heads folks.... there are advantages and consequences to the current QB situation...

The advantage is that you have a proven guy behind him who can win you a few token games... the consequences are that the team knows the leader isn't the guy that's penciled in as #1 on the depth chart...

I mean, how obvious does it have to be...

haha... ok Slimm Pickens I think you guys have run with this one long enough... Time to set the record straight...

First of all having a veteran backup is not reinventing the wheel... It's not even a novelty... It is actually a tried and true formula... Let's stop pretending that this is in any way a 'new' concept... Veteran QB's have been backing up starters for decades.... Centuries even.

Second, if Henne is not the outright leader of this team it is on him... Seriously... SERIOUSLY.

You guys have been clamoring... Kicking and screaming... to get Henne under center and now on the very verge of getting exactly what you asked for... We got EXCUSES. What is it??? Is Henne the answer or no???? Why isn't he ready right now???? Why does he need time to suck before he can lead this team???? Why you so worried that a noodle armed, has been, cant beat anyone is gonna kick his a**??? Regardless of how quick Tony S is on the trigger...

The reality of the game today is that coaches are changed more than fresh undies... Yet this is the reality on EVERY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE... So YES, Henne's fate is inexorably linked to Sparano's... and he does not get all the time in the world... Why should he????

All the guy has ever asked for is a shot... It's put up or shut up time for Henne and all his little cheerleaders here on FH... Put your money where your mouth is... Sink or swim. He Deserves it... personally I think the kid is gonna be fine... Which is why I could care less if he has Penny or Matt freakin' Ryan behind him... This has ZERO to do with Penny.

No, he is not on a short leash. If the team yanks Henne at any point to go with Pennington, the coaching staff likely will have signed their pink slip. Giving up on Henne will destroy what this team has been trying to build the past three years. You finally get a big time wide receiver and you insert Pennington? Doesn't make sense.

It makes perfect sense. Henne gets yanked and the QB carousel starts up again; that IMO is what some of the chicken littles on this site want.

Yeah I think henne is on the hot seat. I think he is being told he has to step it up. all and all he was outperformed by the back ups.

Having a veteran backup is done when you have an entrenched starter that is the CLEAR leader and the organization has CLEARLY commited to... In other words, you bring in a guy like Jon Kitna to backup Tony Romo.. it works.. You bring in a guy like Rex Grossman to backup Donavan McNabb... You have a guy like Chris Redman backup Matt Ryan...

The point is, it's CLEAR who the best QB on the team is, and who the team is commited to... the veteran is only there for a cushion to keep from having to throw some 6th round rookie into the fire if the starter gets hurt...

This situation is completely different... if you can't see that I can't help you...

Show me another 2nd or 3rd year quarterback in the NFL who is the CLEAR "starter" that has to compete with a 10 year veteran for the teams ear on the sideline...

It's not on Henne... the front office... period.

Well when Henne can start being himself and stop trying to be Penny lite, than I think he can lead. But it won't happen as long as Penny is still in MIA.

This is true, but very rarely has that veteran backup been what Pennington was to this team and it's fans in '08. Dude came in off the trash heap and helped take us from 1-15 to division winners. And him and Porter owned that locker room, and I get the feeling that Penny to a big extent still does. That is the difference. This is not a situation where a team signs a veteran backup from another team for "insurance". Pennington is battle tested with this team, and it is adversely affecting Henne's ability to take over that leadership role.

Seen this coming once they resigned Penny. You can't expect a 12 gm starter to take a team by the horns when you got a backup intentional or unintentionally still leading from the sidelines.

Balt and Atl rode out a rookie season and sophomore slumps with their respective young qbs, all the while not bringing in a 10 yr vet to mentor,or what ever bs reason some like to use for the situation in MIA. "I lead and win games". Penny said shortly after resigning.

If its Henne's team you commit, you don't half *** it.

People here want their man crush Penny starting or the future 'greatness' in White playing. The FO has made a terrible mistake on how to use/groom a young qb. A mistake that might end up causing the loss of another 2nd round pick.

You call Matt Ryan rookie of the year... 11-5... RIDING OUT????? Even in the guy's supposed sophomore slump he played hurt... Had a winning record and 22 TD's and 14 INT's... you can't seriously be comparing that situation to ours... Ryan showed he had the goods from the jump... No controversy and certainly no need to ride out ANYTHING but a winning season.

Joe Flacco... First rook to EVER win two playoff games... after a likewise 11-5 season record... 2nd year and 2nd trip to the playoffs with a stunning 21 TD's 12 INT's despite a winning 9-7 record... Some sophomore slump.

These two scenarios were not a commitment to youth... it was common sense... They would have owned the starting job if Tom freakin Brady was behind them... Henne has not shown anything REMOTELY CLOSE to what these two did from the first snap of the first game... Doesn't mean he won't... but you can't blame the fins for being cautious... He is getting his shot and it is about time.

I just don't get how we can be so confident in the kid and then so terrified that he is gonna get the hook...
