Is Hickey Joined at the Hip to Philbin's Hot Seat?

No "new" GM only gets a 2 year deal. Most get 4 or 5 year deals. He was given 2 years so his deal and Philbin's end at the same time. Both will get fired together or remain together. NO way just one stays and one goes

The question that could come into play is that IF Philbin is replaced, will Hickey be the one to the best available coach or, will it take a complete house cleaning? We lost our top GM choices, and many believe that was because of having to retain Philbin. Could the same hold true for a new HC?

This is, IMO, the MAJOR problem with half measures and the #1 reason I wanted Philbin gone before we even started the GM search.

As crappy as the Parcells era was, at least they started it right by removing all remnants from past/failed regimes.

It's a VERY difficult decision, as unless every single draft pick completely BUSTS and this team goes 1-15 I'm not sure how Hickey can be judged on his merits based on one offseason. Yeah, so I just hope this arrangement works out, I really really do because if it falls on its ass, the future is murky to say the least.

first off, philbin isnt on any hot seat other than the blind haters or some media goof who is trying to stir the pot. and he shouldnt be.

second, why in the hell would ANY 1st year gm be on ANY hot seat? hickey and philbin have absolutely NOTHING to do with each other but being on the same team. hickey didnt hire philbin and philbin didnt hire hickey. so why are people trying to "join them at the hip"?

this just gets more obnoxious by the day. this has become the absolute lowest point in the dolphins history, fan wise. its toxic and flat out embarrassing most of the time anymore. jet fans are laughing at us for gods sake!! the hatred agaisnt the NEW gm and with each other and the flat out, unwarranted, no sense threads that keep popping up are just plain sports insanity.

is hickey on the hot seat. ARE YOU FUGGIN KIDDING ME? he isnt responsible for the last 20 years of poop this team has been. not ONE thing! and people want to tie him to some hot seat before he has ever done one thing? hasnt had even one season under his watch? it's just unbelievable.

I was horribly, horribly upset with the last two games. I understand why we lost to the Bills given their D-line completely over matched our O-line. But the Jets loss was inexcusable! That being said....you're overreacting.

No, I'm really not. If Philbin can't get this team up for a playoff game, if he can't prepare this team when the playoffs are on the line, then he isn't good enough to be our head coach. I'm not interested in extending a period of mediocrity for the sake of coaching staff consistency. You lose decades doing that crap.

If we miss playoffs why would we can one and not the other? Why would a new coach want an unproven gm?

HC/GM relationships can work two ways. If Philbin lays a turd this year, I'm all for giving Hickey two years with a HC of his choosing. If that doesn't work, clean house. I'm not going to get into whether Hickey should be fired if this season goes bad because I don't think it's even a possibility. He was only just hired.

this off-season Philbin gained more power and influence than before, he doesn't seem like a guy on a hot seat

You can only blame a coach for so much. At some point you have to acknowledge the players have to get themselves up for a games. So, I dont mind agreeing to disagree and maybe if we have continual problems where it doesnt seem like the players are responding to philbin, but the reason why i think you're overreacting, is because this is one instance. And within this one instance, there's blame to go around to everyone on the team, not just the coach.

Philbin and Hickey have 3 years. That is just my guess of Ross giving them adequate time to sink or swim....and because JTC111 will not agree...lol

He sure as **** shouldn't be. Philbin has already proven himself a sinking ship who is clutching to Hickey as his last hope. It would be very unfair if he pulls Hickey down with him.

We lost our top GM choices

really? which ones are those exactly? the only for sure, TOP candidate was TON GAMBLE and he was coveted by several teams and he turned them ALL down to stay by his family.

people are making it look like he just didnt want miami. the FACT is, he didnt want ANYBODY!!! he turned everyone down!!

hickey was one of the early interviews and fans are acting like he was some pull it out of the hat, never on the radar, desperate candidate. remember when he came in and interviewed? what was the headline the next morning? HICKEY INTERVIEW KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK!!! its on here somewhere if any who dont remember want to search it up. and we interviewed a good 6 candidates AFTER him!

but, fans still want to keep portraying him as some panick, we couldnt do any better, the good candidates all said no chump. HE INTERVIEWED EARLY IN THE PROCESS and NO OTHER INTERVIEW said how much they "knocked it out of the park"! and speaking of the "process"? thats exactly what it was. ROSS SAID from DAY ONE they they would NOT be hiring ANYONE right off the bat, they would be thorough and would be interviewing MANY candidates and would NOT announce a hire untill it was COMPLETED!! i guess everyone just forgot that, or are ignoring it. but folks keep on with their "ross is an idiot. he is taking to long while all the good candidates got away. he should have just picked someone. i dont like the PROCESS" WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! and if they just would have paid attention to what ross said he as going to do, how it was going to go, and WHY it was going to go that way from the very beginning, some wouldn't be so confused and angry over how it was done and WHY hickey was hired.

i think hickey was the guy to beat since his interview. RAY FARMER? did he say no? if so, WHY? as the dolphins were not offering the job to ANYONE before ALL of their candidate were interviewed! IT doesnt matter anyway BECAUSE FARMER WAS ALWAYS GOING BACK TO CLEVELAND WHERE HIS PALS AND AN UPCOMING DRAFT FULL OF MULTIPLE , HIGH ROUND DRAFT CHOICES AWAITED HIM!! he was never coming here or any of the OTHER TEAMS he interviewed with!! he as just holding clevelands feet to the fire. PERIOD!! and it worked.

and the fans say everyone else just said NO to miami and walked away. everyone seems to think we offered the job to ANYONE AND EVERYONE WE INTERVIEWED!! not so!! remember the process? NO ONE was getting offered the job untill ALL the candidates were interviewed. so how could they all have said NO when they were not even offered the job yet? this is all just fans ignoring the process as it was layed out by ross and being duped by a hateful, stir the pot media and just plain hating the candidate we hired. nothing based on the facts of the process.

so, STOP ALL THIS NONSENSE!! at the end of the interviews, i think hickey was going to be the guy. it was HIS JOB TO LOSE after his interview. his was the ONLY interview that was was commented on by someone in the finz as a KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK interview. he impressed them GREATLY, EARLY ON and people are just going to have to come to grips with that. they should, because ITS THE TRUTH!!! and just because ray farmer used us to chum cleveland and walk, itshould not be a catalyst for the venom and hatred thrown at dennis hickey. for the last 20 years, while the dolphins have sunk to the lowest of lows, making huge blunders with drafts, f/a's, coaches, gm's, etc...., hickey was helping build one of the best teams in the nfl who were loaded with pro bowlers, a couple hall of famer's, perennial playoffs and a SUPER BOWL WIN!!!

BUT, in what has become the m/o of dolphin fans, that makes a bum. a HORRIBLE choice for gm.

as i have been saying for a while, the fans of the miami dolphins have sank to the lowest of lows. no matter what evidence is presented, they stay the course and keep repeating the SAME OLD NONSENSE!!!

3 years from now, i may be leading the charge to get rid of hickey like i was 3 years after ireland proved he was a blunder. but for me, there is absolutely NO REASON to be hating on a guy with his back ground. especially before he has done one single thing for the team!! thats the big issue i take with the haters, wait untill he has a couple years in, not before he has barely decorated his office.

Philbin has already proven himself a sinking ship

really? how so?

He better be. If he costs us another shot at Harbaugh, I will be all kinds of pissed off.

I could see a scenario where Jim Harbaugh takes over and keeps Hickey on, but Harbaugh has final say.

If Ross is giving Philbin and Hickey 3 years no matter what I suppose I will need to find something else to do on Sundays. Philbin has already wasted 2 years of my life, I can't bear another 3.
