is philbin the smartest head coach miamis had since jj?

I hope not! JJ was a ****ing idiot. Anyone who would stop Marino from calling audibles is a moron!

The only thing JJ was good at was the draft, and only because he got so many damn picks from the Vikes.

If thats what u call an idiot, im sure hope philbin is just like him, would not mind having a dynasty like jj cowboys had at all. He made 1 questinable decision and all the sudden he is an idiot? get real.

I think Nick Saban was pretty intelligent. A complete penishole, but intelligent nonetheless. Probably more intelligent than Philbin, imo.

johnson was a genius in DAL .. i believe it was the beginning of the end for the Dolphins

Saban was the smartest coach the Dolphins have had since Shula left. He knew X's and O's much better than JJ. JJ got by on drafting and motivating. He won in Dallas because he had loads of talent and excellent assistant coaches. Saban made Gus Frerotte a good QB.

He would run the ball into a brick wall for three quarters...and then turn to Dan an ask him to bail his ass out every game. BRILLIANT!

Like I said, he was a good drafter/recruiter...but that's it. He never did anything special relative to "coaching" that you could point to...he innovated nothing. He never did anything special with no talent...he was always loaded with talent...but he could not get Marino to a SB with several teams full of talent because he was too stupid to use the talent he had correctly. He was a moron!

I have an irrational hate for JJ, I hate him more than I hate Saban. JJ was able to get us some good defensive players, but taking the ball out of #13's hands, not letting him audible and he pounding the ball up the middle with Karim Abdul-Jabbar was just stupid. And even with the defense we had we still got shellacked by jacksonville and mark brunell (62 to fricking 7)...JJ is responsible for the downfall of our team. He was probably the dumbest coach we ever had, I don't think TS, Cam, or Wanny would stop marino from calling audibles...

He made Kippy Brown the OC. Nuff said right there. That was brutal.

The Herschel Walker trade was what made JJ look smart.

Now, he may in fact be an intelligent guy - but I never viewed him as a smart coach.

Jimmy Johnson is one of the most over rated coaches of all time. Stripping down a HoF level of offense to run run pass on third and long is one of the dumbest, most frustrating things I've seen in my football life time. We've never been able to recover from this horse****.

Sure he drafted great defensive players but lets be honest, Yatil Green (um homer pick, thanks) John Avery and basically every other offensive player this ******* drafted was a bust. I wish Dan had gone to the vikes to get his ring as that was the rumor back in the day. Imagine him with Moss, Carter, robert smith and that offense instead of cunningham and later culpepper.

You can't compare Philbin to Johnson. johnson will be a HoF coach based on his luck in dallas with drafting big fat linemen and running a high school level offense behind a great defense. Jimmy johnson is the best D scout of all time, nothing more.

it pains me to say this, but Saban was pretty smart.

I agree, but seems to also have grapes instead of grapefruits down below when it comes to sticking it out when things don't work out fast enough for him....the moment Alabama starts to lose or not compete, they can say goodbye to him.
