Is Vernon Carey Better Than Robert Gallery???

This begs the question, did Miami get it RIGHT? Trade a 4th round pick to make sure we get the best offensive tackle in the draft class? Seriously Shawn Andrews is still playing right guard and sat out most of the year last year (injuries were an issue with him pre-draft), and in Gallery's second year he is not showing the same quantum leap in play that Carey is showing right now.

Carey could very comfortably play left tackle right now and is probably better there than at right tackle...but even though he's better at left I think he might be better at right tackle right now than Robert Gallery currently is.

This is weird. Something stupid that Spielman did actually turned out to work out for us...unlike the Feeley and Gordon trades.

If carey actually turns out to be an elite LT (and there is no reason to assume he won't find his way to the position sooner or later) it will almost have been worth those other three lost picks.
 
I don't know that I can explain Gallery getting pancaked by saying that Belichick's schemes did it. I dunno man. Gallery has not been impressive, wasn't all that impressive last year, has yet to secure the LT job from Sims even though you know they want to get him in there...

I think Carey's just flat out better man.

I completely agree and I have a lifelong Raiders fan who is a coach of a major high school FB program in Indiana(:chuckle: ) sitting right next to me that agrees.

Like I said, I hope in the end, you are right. I have just seen too much of Gallery to say he is a bust or that Carey is better. I will reserve my judgement until at least the middleof the season. It is quite possible that Carey will be moved to LT before Gallery.

You just have to watch Family guy. It on Fox on Sunday and Adult Swim every weekday.
 
we wanted people to be patient with Carey when he didn't even play last season. willie mcginnest has made a lot of players look stupid. both guys are playing RT. there's no point in speculating now. our guy hasn't even gotten started yet. remember how far wade smith fell?

well i will agree that gallery looked very foolish a few times last year. i forget what team he was playing, but holding was the only thing working for him on the outside pass rush.
 
Don't compare Carey to Wade Smith. I object to it. I reviewed film of Wade Smith during the preseason before his rookie season and came to the conclusion that the guy was marginal at best even though everyone was raving about him. I've reviewed a lot of film on Vernon Carey at left tackle and the guy is a black hole. He makes right defensive ends disappear.
 
I'm gonna say that all this hype on "lean" tackles is a load of bull sid.

I'm watching Robert Gallery look like he's in over his head (looks like a huge waste of 18 million in guaranteed money), I saw Eric Winston get biotched by FSU, and we saw what happend to Wade Smith.

I'm a little hesistant to jump on Dbrickashaw Ferguson now, to be honest.

I think its more of a Marcus McNeal or a Max Jean-Gilles type of guy that we want.

I think Shawn Andrews will be a great guard for years to come, if he can control his weight. In fact, I think he would never dissappoint while in the game.

But Gallery is in every down and just looks like a 2nd day draft pick still in his rookie year.

I have no idea if Vernon is the best lineman or tackle of that draft, I'll have to wait and see. I will say that I'm not nearly as impressed with him as is the author of this thread, but I am certainly as hopeful and will not argue in hopes that his call is correct.

If we can get Marcus with our first rounder and trade up and get us a starting QB near the end of the first it won't matter how the rest of the draft goes because it will already rock. Young QB/RB/RT/LT with veteran TE in McMicheal and pass catching options in Chambers etc would be totally scary. Grab a veteran center and the team can start looking at overhauling that defense with everything else.

gallery wasnt very good at all.

carey has impressed me a few times and other times been solid.

based on what i've seen, carey is better right now.

but wont carey be going against trevor pryce? hes a beast

btw, i love Strongbad
