Is Vernon Carey Better Than Robert Gallery???

If we can get Marcus with our first rounder and trade up and get us a starting QB near the end of the first it won't matter how the rest of the draft goes because it will already rock. Young QB/RB/RT/LT with veteran TE in McMicheal and pass catching options in Chambers etc would be totally scary. Grab a veteran center and the team can start looking at overhauling that defense with everything else.

Actually I would look at it the other way around. Having Carey in the fold, we can target one of the quality tackles that will fall just by the sheer number of tackles available later in the first round, and get ourselves our quarterback early in the round if that's the pick we have (I'm still thinkin Jacobs or Leinart)

gallery wasnt very good at all.

carey has impressed me few times and other times been solid.

based on what i've seen, carey is better right now.

but wont carey be going against trevor pryce? hes a beast

No, actually McIntosh and our tight ends will be up against Pryce, who plays on the right defensive end position. I believe our tight ends going up against Pryce are one of the key matchups of the game because our run blocking requires our TEs to do a lot of one-on-one damage against DEs.

CKparrot,

tsk tsk... :D ... i've noted most of your posts as being spot on, but this one baffles me... while Gallery has not yet lived up to his No. 4 overall billing, he is a much better athlete and certainly a better tackle... He does need to get a little stronger in his legs, something Carey doesn't need...

however, i still am adamant that Carey would be better served as a guard... his feet are not quick enough and he lacks the crucial range needed for tackle... he is a powerful player with good balance, but i really think you'll see him struggle this year if/when opponents put speed rushers on his right side...

Carey was a complete wash last year, perhaps for reasons beyond just his own talent, but still... While he has improved, i'd put little stock into his preseason performance until he takes on a few solid starters for 60 minutes...

I just saw Willie McGinnest totally BYTCH slap Gallery in the chest and just knock him flat on his butt, and Gallery had to hold Willie to keep him away from the QB.

I have not seen that or anything like it happen to Carey in any single play that he's played this preseason.

I will admit, I have not seen enough tape to make a conclusive statement, but when all is said and done, I believe we got THE best tackle in the draft in Carey. Bar none. I guess ya'll can roast me for that if you want. Let the years prove my wisdom on it.

I dono that could possibly be true, however Vernon really has turned the corner only with Houck's teaching. Gallery with Houck's teaching would be far better...

thats a good call. im not sure why i thought pryce lined up on the other side...maybe when they played that sunday night game a couple years ago pryce was on that side, or he switched.

i do agree about our TE. some have suggested spreading the broncos out, but based on what you just said and the linehan offense, there bound to be a good chunk of double TE sets.

man i am so psyched about this game. it mostly curiosity, i think

Talent only matters if your putting it to use. So definately marking this thread for after the game for analysis on Carey. Shouldn't be hard to top Gallery's performance unless somehow Carey gets knocked on his *** by a LB :rofl3:

yeah all of oaklands line is playing like crap today. Pitiful showing, play calling is wierd, run on 3 and 13 makes no sense at all. And I would much rather have vernon right now than losman.

I could swear I have seen that same baffling playcalling somewhere before...

why is the kid in your pic using a knife to make a candy cane sharpe???? why not just use the knife if he wants a sharpe object???

Eventually the adults will take the knife away and then he'll be left over with the sharp candy cane. Get it?

I wonder how many of you that are answering this question have actually seen Gallery play as a raider, and seen Carey play as our left tackle this preseason against pretty good pass rushers Reggie Hayward and Alex Brown...then Greg Spires in the Tampa game.
Exactly CK. The people rolling their eyes haven't done their research. Carey is definitely the best lineman taken in that draft as of today. If Gallery were playing even mediocre at LT, I'd say not, but Gallery isn't even AT the position Carey shined at in the preseason, and Gallery was SUPPOSED to be a LT. I don't think the Raiders wanted to use a #4 overall pick on a RT. And Carey is probably a better RT than Gallery as of today. PressCoverage's point about Carey's taking on a quality speed rusher for 60 minutes is a good one, but Gallery isn't even AT the position where he could do that, so who's doing better?

Basically the gist of what I'm saying is that Gallery has been a total disappointment based on his billing, and Carey has done way more than what was expected of him. Just the fact that he wasn't a total mess at LT supports that.

I watched Gallery play last night and wasn't real impressed. I think we still have to see Carey play a WHOLE regular season game before we make that comparison.

for as much abuse (justified) that miamis OLine has taken, people dont realize that the raiders had the worst rushing game in the league last year. i still think carey is terrible, but gallery is better than him, he is just way overrated.

You genuinely think the majority of people here watch football games?
