It was Philbin's folly — but it's time for Tannehill to produce - (Hyde)

I'm really hoping Tannehill shreds the Raiders but if he plays like crapola again I can't wait to see the look on the medias faces when they realize Philbin still isn't answering the question...

If the play of this team continues, he will not have to worry about answering any questions very soon.

According to football outsiders DVOA Miami is:
4th at running the ball
9th at stopping the run
14th at stopping the pass
25th at passing the ball

Many theorize that Ross forced Philbin to change offensive coordinators (I don't agree and believe it was a mutual decision, but thats neither here nor there). Many also seem to believe that it takes 6-8 games for a QB to adjust to a new system, which is public knowledge that Ross and everybody else understands (again, I don't agree with this theory but its probably debatable).

So if Ross forced Philbin to hire a new offensive coordinator knowing that could cause Tannehill to regress, and our passing game is the only area we've regressed in, then how would it make any logical sense to fire Philbin at this point? The logic doesn't add up.

Following through on that logic/ logical consequences by plugging in expectations and contingencies, it would also then make no logical sense not to let Tannehill play out at least half this season... and certainly not throw him under the bus that sends a signal to his teammates regarding his leadership and the reality that the HC won't have their backs either.

Logic and the NFL do not compute for the most part. IF this team gets off to a 1-5 start or maybe 2-4, changes will have to be considered. Nature of the Beast, no matter it being fair.

The fan base is not buying into any more reasons or logic, seeing them as more excuses for the team's continued failure. It does not matter if it's right, they just don't want to hear it.

Philbin has a few problems:
1. even though the logic doesn't add up the possibility he'll be fired sooner rather than later is very real. I just don't believe it'll happen this week unless maybe Tannehill plays great and the rest of the team ****s the bed.
2. Tannehill has never been good to begin with. This is not the same as an Eli Manning regressing and playing like total **** for a game or two (while still having good-great games). Tannehill is regressing from below average to terrible. And like I said, I don't agree with the theory that you can't make any determinations until game 6 of a new offense.

... it takes 6-8 games for an offense to adjust to a new system.

One must also take into account the severely limited amount of practice time teams are now allowed under the newer rules of the CBA.

I have the feeling the game plan is (and should be) to try and run the ball. Brady did not have alot of success through the air (although he hasn't started out great this year either).

New England Passing
C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT SACKS QBR RTG
T. Brady 24/37 234 6.3 1 0 2-13 60.1 91.5

I would disagree with your latter point and instead argue that Tannehill has shown steady and encouraging progress up through game 14 last season and a case can be made that considering losing a red zone threat in TC, a dependable 3rd and touchdown receiver mid season, the porous OL no real blocking TEs, he had to work through, the 26th ranked running game, an undependable rookie kicker who developed the yips, the internal disruptions, a dinosaur calling the predictable plays, etc. he actually over-achieved thru game 14 including beating 4 postseason bound teams. We're talking about game 15 on, where our punishing D proved the previous week that not even Brady would have come out of Buffalo victorious and physically unharmed either.

This is pre-mature but, goes with your 6 games. The NFL trade deadline is 4 games away. IF this downward trend continues, there comes a time when the team throws up a white flag for this year. They have to consider trading vets to get picks for next year and the future.

Hope it does not come to that. However, GB and going to Da Bears after Oakland are far from easy.

Tannehill stood before the same media and said this was the, "most challenging week of my pro career."

And this is one of the reasons I am not very fond of him. The ego crap translates into his play.
So he had a bruised ego. Poor poor boy. Maybe he should learn how to prioritize.

There are three weeks I would put higher up as this 'most challenging week'.

Week after the Pats game: with all the hoopla going on after a great emotional win, knowing we need only one win to go to his first playoffs should be on top of all 'challenging weeks' in his pro career.
Week after the Bills game should have replaced the prior week. Getting up on your feet after a crappy game and a beating by a mediocre team knowing that one of our most disliked rivals is awaiting in our house for a playoff type game.
And that week should have been replaced on top with the week after the Jets game trying to cope with a bitter loss, another smackdown, at home and knowing we wasted a grand opportunity going to the playoffs and now having to live with that all offseason long.

Nope. His bruised ego is on top.

Who would you even try and trade? Maybe Wake? Do not see much else on the roster that is trade worthy.

IF we are in that position, I have to consider Delmas, Moreno, Moore, and Colledge, who are all gone next year. I also have to consider Starks, Finnegen, Gibson, and maybe even Wallace and Grimes. This may sound crazy to some but, if we are going nowhere soon, they are not going to be there if and when we are ready to contend. JMO

So true man. I rolled my eyes when he said it was the toughest week of his life. This is why I know he's mentally brittle. He didn't take it like "That's fine, I've got to step it up and go out there and give it my all." It's how I know he was coddled when he was brought here.

Have to admit was a little surprised to hear him say that publically, would have preferred to hear him say something like a Marino would have said that he is confident in his abilities and he is going to prepare like he does every week and the rest is coaches decision. He did say he is going to just keep preparing hard like each week. I am still in the camp of letting him play in the new offense and see where he is later in the year like Fear the Beard posted in another thread.
