Jamar Taylor was ready to quit?

I seem to recall an article where Jamar Taylor was interviewed when he was recovering and his responses were pretty wacky. It was clear that he was extremely frustrated by his medical condition and not able to talk about it. He talked about his faith and everything being handled by God.
This could have been around the time that he was having serious problems because he came across as emotionally troubled and I recall thinking that maybe we had another problem child on the team. It's good to hear that he's now healthy and eager to play football.

ireland again.

this was discovered at the combine and they went and drafted him high? its not a sprained ligament were talking here. people regularly DIE from this kind of thing!!

ireland and his crack med team screwed the pooch.

kidneys dont usually correct themselves like the liver can [no, i am not a doctor, but i did attend an AA meeting last night!]. this is probably something that is going to bother him or even hinder him his whole career, which just may be a very short one. he could be facing kidney dialyses on a regular basis at some point.

many things can torch your kidneys. tylenol [Acetaminophen/ibuprofen] is one of them. the seahawks had a safety years ago named KENNY EASLEY [my fav safety ever in the nfl]. perenial probowl guy. well, he not being the type to swallow narcotic pain killers he opted for the mega tylenol doses. kenny had no idea of the risks but the doctors knew that tylenol was a HUGE risk for kidney damage but kept it going. kenny started feeling real ill the last couple years of his career.

then he retired and things got worse. he goes to the hospital and finds out his kidneys are gone!! all from the tylenol. life time of kidney dialyses.

taylor will be damn lucky to play 4 years in the nfl. i feel bad for the kid. hopefully he is one of those guys who actually used his college education and go into a lucrative job of some sort beyond the nfl.

It sucks what all he's been through but I'm just hoping he can remain positive and play at a high level. We need him, bad.

Question though for everyone saying his kidneys are screwed, in the article doesn't it say the condition is reversible?

I swear sometimes i feel some of the NFL Cheerleaders are mentally tougher then some of these guys out there.
Chubbs

I swear sometimes people bitch about things they've never experienced for themselves and claim to be experts.

Man I hope he recovers not only for the Dolphins but for himself so he can live a great life. On the football side of things if I'm Hickey I would be thinking about using a high draft pick on a corner because there's no guarantees Taylor will play long. We talk about our OL being a big need but if I could get Denmark and or Fuller I would think hard about it.

IF this is a problem, of which I have no idea, one would think that Hickey would have gone after a young Verner over Finnegen. I'm thinking we may be over-reacting, as hard as that is to believe on this forum.

The conjecture in this thread is incredible and some of it is disgusting.

We don't know how bad the kidney issue was. We don't know how bad it is today. We don't know whether coming off the blood pressure mess healed the issue or whether there's a residual issue for the long haul. We don't know whether he was off anti inflammatories just during his recovery or whether he's off them forever.

We don't know how serious his other injuries were, the groin etc. we don't know whether rehabbing them without anti inflammatories and with the kidney issues was worse than a normal rehab and, if so, how much worse. We don't know his pain levels, his pain threshold, how good/bad a healer he is, how good his treatment plan was, whether he fully healed and was just dealing with conditioning issues, stiffness or lack of game fitness. We don't know if he wasn't fully healed.

We don't know what kind of guy he is. How he responds to challenges, setbacks. We don't know if he's a "mental midget" or a tough sonofabitch.

We don't know. So before you label or diss (or praise) the guy, just bear in mind that you don't know jack about him, his condition or his injury.

Gotta love his attitude.

Taylor says he’s ready to prove his worth with the Dolphins.

“We’ve got a lot of competition (with the Dolphins) but I’m not scared of competition,” Taylor told the Statesman. “May the best man win. I played with a lot of great DBs here. … I’m healthy and ready to take over the world. That’s my plan.”

Taylor recently gave a shoutout on Twitter to former Dolphins Pro Bowl cornerbacks Sam Madison and Pat Surtain.

Just trying to be one of the greats! S/O Sam Madison and big bro @psurtain23 we gotta link up soon pic.twitter.com/UdB0cjFuh0

Great points. I know nothing about anything other than the blood pressure issue from personal experience, 2 doctors, and everything I could find n google. Based n that, I believe he will need to continue medication but, may be wrong. Miami's doctors forgot more, in volumes, than I will ever know.

However, the National Heart Institute, the Mayo clinic, and many others do offer some credibility.

Seems like unless you have been through life as a football player at every level and got drafted high and dealt with injuries and all that change and demands that come with this career, your negative comments don't really mean much. It's easy to speculate what goes on or should go on with these young guys mentally, emotionally and in locker rooms and what not, but that's really all it is, speculations and assumptions from those of us who haven't been in the situation. Sounds like he will be fine. Life is often about what you overcome.

seems like if he has a setback he could really have relapse of these feelings. Hard to judge since Im not in his shoes but when I see guys with limbs being blown off and working back from that its hard for me to feel sorry for a millionaire that has to overcome kidney issues and a groin injury

I don't recall Jamar or anyone else asking you to feel sorry for him.

Ireland really had a passion for spending high on injured players last year
