With it being extremely slow at both my job and it being the slow part of the offseason I have been looking around for things Miami related. Granted this is a bleacher report article it is actual a positive article related to our Miami Dolphins.

Jared Odrick was drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the 28th pick in the 2010 draft to be the anchor of a 3-4 defensive line. Fast forward four years and Odrick will finally be getting his opportunity to play a full-time role on the Dolphins defensive line, but not in the way the team had originally imagined.
Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano, the front office and coaching staff that drafted him, are both out the door, and the Dolphins are now running a 4-3 defensive front.
Regardless of scheme, Odrick has been productive for the Dolphins, logging 15.5 sacks over the past three years from a variety of alignments, but primarily on the inside of the defensive line. His ability to disrupt the passing game from the inside has helped his fellow defensive linemen, like Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon, to "clean up" the sacks rushing from the perimeter.
Odrick is underrated because he makes life easier for his teammates, despite not getting much individual glory.

More like totally over-rated. The guy is a bust as a 1st rounder...

He's a good player. Not nearly as athletically gifted overall as Starks but he plays with a high motor and has a quick upfield step. The only place he really lacks is in lateral agility and overall balance -- he's a bit high cut, imo -- which affects his ability to rush the passer. He's not an up and coming star in the Muhammad Wilkerson mold, but he's a good player. At the end of the day though I can't help but look at him and Koa Misi and see that they aren't Dez Bryant.

I wouldn't call him a bust, both he and Misi are important role players, but I've said a million times I still wish we had grabbed Earl Thomas and I was disappointed as soon as I heard we traded down...Odrick isn't a bust, he's a solid starter who steps up when he is called upon and is still developing so while I doubt he will ever have the caliber career as Thomas, he's playing well and getting better every season IMO.

He is for his draft position...you don't want a "solid starter" from a #1. You want a stud. He isn't...

Odrick is finally getting a chance to play his natural position. Label someone a bust when their contract expires.

Odrick is far from a bust. Avg 5 sacks over the last 3 years, for a bit part DT is very good.

IMO he has been under used and because of that is underrated. With Soliai gone and next to Starks, Odrick will break out this year and get over 8 sacks

I don't know, honestly how many "studs" have been drafted at the end of the first round (#28) in the last 10 years or so? Without looking, I'd guess not too many, that said I think we're arguing the same thing that maybe we should've taken the stud, and potential hall of famer, when we had the chance rather than trading down for multiple players. Still, Odrick has played well, not the caliber of player that Earl Thomas is but that is what Ireland decided to do with our pick that year

Why the hate, Dr Phin? I disagree 100%. Jared Odrick is a good contributor and a leader on the team. I hope that we re-sign him to a long term contract (but not for ridiculous money). Jared is a keeper.
OK - Earl Thomas was maybe a better Draft pick, but we still got a very good player. You need to put the past behind. Remember we got Odrick and Koa Misi for the pick that the Chargers selected Ryan Matthews. I'd say that this was actually one of Ireland's more successful deals after giving up so much to get Brandon Marshall. We weren't always on the winning end of the negotiations.

I have a similar reaction, but for me, it's knowing that we missed out on Earl Thomas that hurts the most about the trade down.

I don't think odrick is a bust. He's a solid player and a starter at two positions on most teams. I had the opportunity to meet odrick in the tunnel of dolphin stadium the last game of the season vs the jets. Got his autograph and a picture with him.

Bust? He was our best dt last year... and the other two were pro bowlers
