Yes, that was the infamous Dez Bryant draft.
Terrible draft year overall. But I'm not going to criticize Odrick.

I have a similar reaction, but for me, it's knowing that we missed out on Earl Thomas that hurts the most about the trade down.
More like totally over-rated. The guy is a bust as a 1st rounder...
ahh dez bryant...yet another mistake by miami to pass...top 5 bpa staring at you at #12 and you trade back...:baghead:
Why the hate, Dr Phin? I disagree 100%. Jared Odrick is a good contributor and a leader on the team. I hope that we re-sign him to a long term contract (but not for ridiculous money). Jared is a keeper.
OK - Earl Thomas was maybe a better Draft pick, but we still got a very good player. You need to put the past behind. Remember we got Odrick and Koa Misi for the pick that the Chargers selected Ryan Matthews. I'd say that this was actually one of Ireland's more successful deals after giving up so much to get Brandon Marshall. We weren't always on the winning end of the negotiations.
Eh....
Hard to place a grade on him.
- Drafted as a 3-4 DE, decent rookie season.
- Switched to 4-3 DT after D-Coord switch and sat behind two Pro-Bowl DT's in Soliai and Starks
From his limited snaps he neither flashes or flounders. Can't really blame him for riding the bench because Pro Bowl Soliai and Starks take the lead.
:idk:
I understood the trade down. But calling Odrick a bust reeks of desperation to make a point. But Dr. Phin thinks all draft picks over the past 5 yrs are busts. So he's par for the course.
It was not one of Ireland's better deals. He got a guy that was hurt his first year, and is just now starting to be a "decent" contributor. He also got a guy in Misi that we have had to shuffle around to find out where he fits, because he sucked at where they first put him. Even now, if we had a decent LB core...the guy would be footnote.

"Decent rookie season???" He was hurt and didn't play his rookie year...

I must also be wrong based on all the playoff games we won...
Could you imagine Dez, Marshall, Martin, Incog, Pouncey all in same locker room?
Feel like the facility would implode.
He's a role player like Phillip Merling was. Nothing flashy, you didn't get hyped when his name was called, but someone who does their job. He's not faster than the rest, or have better instincts, he's kind of neutral.
The best way to grade him outside of Dolphin fandom is to know what another team would give for him.
i can imagine year in year out double digit td production and a legit win option in the red zone...yeah i imagined that when i was looking at his college work...there hasn't been a college wr that level talent since either...no dez bryants
odricks a good football player he's just not special...will be interesting to see what kind of money he commands should he hit free agency
He is for his draft position...you don't want a "solid starter" from a #1. You want a stud. He isn't...
AJ Green says hi.
