Jared Odrick: Underrated.

I understood the trade down. But calling Odrick a bust reeks of desperation to make a point. But Dr. Phin thinks all draft picks over the past 5 yrs are busts. So he's par for the course.

Odrick is far from a bust. Not even close to being a bust. You also have to remember that Miami traded back to take him, Miami sent their 1st, 4th & 6th to San Deigo in return for San Deigo's 1st, 2nd, 4th and Tim Dobbins. Miami then took Koa Misi with the 2nd.

So to say the move was a bust is far from the truth.

I have a similar reaction, but for me, it's knowing that we missed out on Earl Thomas that hurts the most about the trade down.

Thomas is a perfect fit for the Seahawks' system. Don't get me wrong he's an excellent player, but on most teams he'd just be a really good safety. With Seattle he's the lynchpin of everything they do.

Dez Bryant not only plays a more valuable position but he's an ideal WR talent... suitable for any system.

More like totally over-rated. The guy is a bust as a 1st rounder...

Eh....

Hard to place a grade on him.

- Drafted as a 3-4 DE, decent rookie season.

- Switched to 4-3 DT after D-Coord switch and sat behind two Pro-Bowl DT's in Soliai and Starks

From his limited snaps he neither flashes or flounders. Can't really blame him for riding the bench because Pro Bowl Soliai and Starks take the lead.

:idk:

ahh dez bryant...yet another mistake by miami to pass...top 5 bpa staring at you at #12 and you trade back...:baghead:

He's a role player like Phillip Merling was. Nothing flashy, you didn't get hyped when his name was called, but someone who does their job. He's not faster than the rest, or have better instincts, he's kind of neutral.
The best way to grade him outside of Dolphin fandom is to know what another team would give for him.

Could you imagine Dez, Marshall, Martin, Incog, Pouncey all in same locker room?

Feel like the facility would implode.

Why the hate, Dr Phin? I disagree 100%. Jared Odrick is a good contributor and a leader on the team. I hope that we re-sign him to a long term contract (but not for ridiculous money). Jared is a keeper.
OK - Earl Thomas was maybe a better Draft pick, but we still got a very good player. You need to put the past behind. Remember we got Odrick and Koa Misi for the pick that the Chargers selected Ryan Matthews. I'd say that this was actually one of Ireland's more successful deals after giving up so much to get Brandon Marshall. We weren't always on the winning end of the negotiations.

It was not one of Ireland's better deals. He got a guy that was hurt his first year, and is just now starting to be a "decent" contributor. He also got a guy in Misi that we have had to shuffle around to find out where he fits, because he sucked at where they first put him. Even now, if we had a decent LB core...the guy would be footnote.

"Decent rookie season???" He was hurt and didn't play his rookie year...

I must also be wrong based on all the playoff games we won...

Correct.

Hence his rookie season behing his first playing season. Not rookie year.

i can imagine year in year out double digit td production and a legit win option in the red zone...yeah i imagined that when i was looking at his college work...there hasn't been a college wr that level talent since either...no dez bryants

odricks a good football player he's just not special...will be interesting to see what kind of money he commands should he hit free agency

Terrible comparison. That's why Merling is basically out of football and Ordrick is a key component of our defensive line...

AJ Green says hi.

He is for his draft position...you don't want a "solid starter" from a #1. You want a stud. He isn't...

You won't take anything less than a "stud" with a player selected 28th in his draft class? A player selected in the late 1st round should be sold as a solid contributor, which is exactly what Jared Odrick is. Do you think this defensive line has the reputation is currently has without him? I'll answer that for you. Absolutely not. All of the projected "studs" are top 10 picks...not borderline 2nd round draft choices, the slot where Odrick was selected. If he keeps it up, he will be a pro bowler.
