Regardless of Sparano and his relative coaching prowess, or lack there of, there's no denying that Saban is a great college coach. However his tenure in Miami (especially his 2nd year the further away he got from Wanny's personnel and Scott Linehan's OC'ing) underscored that when it comes to playing on the world's biggest stage with the biggest boys, even he's no stranger to "The Peter Principle." Pat White was great in college himself... too bad he also couldn't go back to recapture the magic, eh?

of course this is correct. but heres the thing. with nick saban there is no doubt in my mind u give him a personal guy that he respects and can work with and give him time. he WILL get it done. yes his time here was a grenade. but sparano doesnt even have that potential. it doesnt matter how much time u give sparano. he isnt gonna get it done. its that simple

did saban? nope. saban has the potential to tho. sparano doesnt

and as crazy as it sounds id actually take saban back if i knew hed stick around - of course no way u could count on that.

when it comes to cowher i think maybe a little bit of this comes into play as well - how long can he give us? we need a foundation. we need a coach that will stick around 10 years or so. i dont know if cowher can give us that much.

jon gruden might be that guy. hes got it done it 2 places at the highest level. he got it done quickly as well. and hes young. plus hes a tireless worker he loves the game. i think he cant stand not coaching. dont know why miami fans dont like the guy or discredit him.

gotta get the right front office people. but gruden could be a home run. i do have some minor concerns such as what offense and defense do we run. and putting in the new systems will probably cause us to take a step back. but i suppose its worth it if it means future success. this team isnt going anywhere with whats in place

listen man we watched the guy year in year out. go look at the drafts under wanny. he was so terrible its not even funny. just about the only guys he found were chris chambers and randy mcmichael. we could review the draft blunders. but its bad. its ugly. even the way they handled the ricky williams trade was awful and that was a good move. wandstedt mishandled williams as well. and williams quit because he didnt believe in his coach. blame ricky if u want, and thats fine - he is a flake. but with proper coaching that guy never would have left miami.

jacksonville was an extremely extremely talented team and we ran into a buzzsaw. jimmy didnt even want to coach that year either. marino and huzeinga had to convince him to stay. so his heart wasnt in it. he was burnt out at the end. and the results of that were clear at the end.

but make no mistake - he left behind a defense with a legit probowler at almost every single position, or probowl talent. inlcuding 3 or 4 guys that either will be or could have been or should be eventual hall of famers.

zach thomas should be a first ballot hall of famer. he may not make it, but he never got the respect he deserved.

jason taylor is a clear hall of famer.

sam madison and patrick surtain if they could have played their entire careers in miaim and jimmy johnson could have somehow lasted a couple more years would be hall of famers imo. it didnt work out. miami didnt win any championships. things could have been much different. these guys were that good. there was a time we had the best and the second best corner in the league and u didnt know which was which from week to week.

that defense was sick. but the front office was never able to add the final pieces to it. linebacker depth was always a concern, and they just couldnt finish the job. but wanny was left with a full cupboard and perhaps all he had to do was draft drew brees. he was projected to miami. everybody here wanted him. and history shows he was the correct pick. wanny blew it.

never made an attempt to find a franchise qb. never even tried. up until this year - wanny and sparano seemed to be the same coach. approached the game the same way. and too damn scared to win in the NFL

Tyalor is not a HOFer and those D's had loads of talent but always choked. is that on the coaching or the players? they choked under JJ and they choked under Wannstedt then they choked under coaches after those guys.

That defense was vastly overrated, they were great Sept-Nov but in dec/Jan? they always choked in big games.

if u had to watch miami games for the past 20 years you wouldnt be saying this. and evidently you havent looked around. offense and winning games go hand in hand. last time i checked u need to outscore you opponent to win.

maybe somethings changed with that??

pretty sure if u look. super bowl WINNERS have super quarterbacks. your jets might be the only exception. and i love rex think hes a great coach. but your jets havent done anything yet. and they wont. i dont care how good your defense is (and thats debatable - although rex makes them much better). you wont win unless sanchez makes a leap - unless he is at least a top 10 guy and there is no debate. even then very unlikely they get it done at the end of the day vs brady, rodgers, rivers - the great ones.

and yes i know uve beaten some good quarterbacks in the playoffs. irrelevant. u havent been to a super bowl. and u arent going to win one unless sanchez is elite. it takes an elite guy to make a run ALL THE WAY THROUGH. like aaron rodgers did last year. yes u might get lucky in one or 2 games. u arent going to get lucky in 4. u simply have to be that good

We don't have a NE offense but we seem to win much mroe ften than not and win more than them in January. We have a good O, very good D and excellent STs.

If only the SB counts you guys never won one despite haveing a top 5 all time QB for so many years and great offenses most of that time.

some points here. and yes there were times the defenses didnt hold up. and im aware. but there were two factors in that imo that cant be overlooked. 1) our defense was too often vanilla - and thats coaches not giving these guys the best chance to get it done. and when it really mattered if u are gonna be predictable all the time, no matter how much talent u have - teams will occasionally expose u. this isnt an indictment of the talent we had tho. rex ryan makes your defense much better than the talent it contains. its a sum of the parts. and rex is a piece.

2) and i mentioned it. we never had the depth we needed on defense. incredible talent at the top of the roster, and not great talent at the bottom. zach thomas got dinged a couple times and we just didnt have 4 good linebackers. so we werent quite there.

but i will say this. the year ray lucas played for this team. the dolphins were the best team in the NFL. it just didnt happen (ray lucas was a big part of the problem lol)

but ur point about taylor is ridiculous. jason taylor is a CLEAR hall of famer. there is no doubt he will be enshrined. and zach thomas should be but probably wont make it.

i gave u a little **** btw and u responded well :)

Hindsight being 20/20, yeah it was easy to be mad at Saban for how he left the Dolphins. That said, Saban's bread and butter was being a defensive mastermind, and JT argueably had his best years under Nick, in fact Saban probably helped JT's cause for Canton the most. At least Nick lived up to the defensive reputation that preceeded him (and still does) Whereas, Tony's alleged bread and butter is the offensive line, and yet our OL outside of Jake Long and Mike Pouncey looks like sh*t.

Saban was a defensive genius... case closed.

He is INFINITELY a better coach than Tony "Meatball" Sparano... this team is winning no more than 5 games.

I just pray that IRELAND gets flushed out as well... he is MORE culpable than meatball. Bad move after bad move....

JT doesn't like Sparano because Sparano doesn't show favoritism towards JT. The coaches JT mentions in his broadcast all liked to stroke JT's ego.

JT needs to stfu. The classy thing to say would be to endorse his current coach, like him or not. JT thinks everything is about him. That guy needs to get in line.

I hope you are giving just as much credit for those drafts to Spielman as you are to Wanny

Also, I wish I could agree with you, and I pray that someday he gets in because IMO he deserves it as well, but Zach isnt a first ballot hall of famer and I cant even say if JT is. If they both have a ring, no doubt they are first ballot. But as far is it stands right now, lets be a little realistic here. Compare Zach to Ray Lewis who is a clear cut first ballot hall of famer. Is Zach = Ray Lewis? In his prime perhaps. But Ray Lewis just keeps on going. Maybe if it werent for the concussions.

I dont remember Rex storking JT's ego. The fact is JT didnt mention Sparano because Sparano doesnt deserve to get mentioned. He simply is not a good HC. He may not even be a marginally good HC.

There are much better pass rushers in the Hall and until they get in Jason isn't and one of the reasons is b/c of his failures in big games. The man has played in 8(I think that # is right) playoff games w/o a single sack.

i dont think jimmy johnson stroked jason taylors ego! i can tell u that right now. great players dont care about that **** anyways. he said what he said because he wants to win.

he put those coaches in that order simply because from a coaching standpoint he felt they gave a team the best chance to WIN. IN THAT ORDER.

clearly, even tho as u pointed out jason WOULD be more inclined to mention sparano, HE DIDNT. thats THE point!!! hes not a great coach. this just simply isnt the best guy for the job.

well thats what i said - i think its doubtful zach thomas goes. because he just never got that respect and we never got the ring. but once upon a time zach thomas had hall of fame numbers led linebacker in int for tds or was right there. he had a better resume than ray at one time. yes ray keeps going and at the end it will set him apart - that and the ring. but zach thomas deserves to be there. in the modern era its - ray lewis, zach thomas, and a guy that gets even less pup - london fletcher (who also has a ring - w st louis and was a big part of that team)

speilman was bad, but no he doesnt deserve the type of blame that wanny does and its not even close. for one thing speilman wasnt here the whole time. he wasnt here when all the scouts wanted us to take brees and we took fletcher. he never had final say until his last year with miami (the year he made an awful trade with new england and took vernon carey and threw away a 4th rounder in the process) the pick should have been wilfork anyways, and alot of people were calling for that. but no its not even close. the blame is on wannys shoulders for this. but nobodys going to say speilman was great by any means either

He has the wrong order then b/c he had his best chance to win w/ Rex and advanced further than he ever had before w/ him.

Zach was a really, really good player but people get too caught up w/ subjective tackle #s. he was never anywhere near Ray Lewis, Urlacher or guys like that.

jts gonna get in. and hes going to get in right away. the rings dont matter for him. the playoffs dont matter for him. he was that good at one time, and he has the "pretty" stats to justify it - SACKS. its much easier for the media or voters to take a defensive end and say "oh hes a great one - just look at the sack numbers" then it is to be objective about say a middle linebacker. jt does in this case have the numbers to back up his case and its an EASY number for voters to look at. jason will get in easily. he was also DPOY which really is just the icing on the cake for him. hell get in.

zach on the other hand probably wont. BECAUSE we never went deep into the playoffs. hes just simply judged by a different set of criteria. is it fair? nope. but its just how it is. and zach never received the media attention or the respect of the "talking heads" when he played. ray got the talk - because "oh hes so fast" or whatever. zach was making more plays. and zach thomas may not have timed fast. but man that guy was AWFULLY fast on the field. how many sideline tackles AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE did that guy make? a ton. and thats impressive. zach should get in but never will. taylor is a lock
