Jay Cutler Benched for Jimmy Clausen

Eight landing spots for Cutler. Not sure why they had the Dolphins in the picture.

Miami isn't listed in the article as being one of the 8 teams. Maybe the pic was a mistake? Where'd you get it?

Last time I saw Jimmy Clausen he was winging it mindlessly 100mph into trafffic, regardless of the requirement of the play. Zero field patience or presence. It will be interesting to see if anything has changed.

Odd moved by Trestman, who seemingly has no chance to save his job.

This is weird because I hadn't heard Clausen was going to start but I was thinking about him tonight during the Jaguars/Titans game. Blake Bortles makes some very Clausenesque throws, the tunnel vision line drives to nowhere.

I mentioned two months ago that Bortles' mechanics had declined to shocking degree in the NFL, with a bizarre long crankup. Phil Simms did a great job of spotlighting that tonight. He broke down exactly what I planned to post here tonight, that not only is Bortles cranking down to his waist before throwing, but it's combined with horrid body positioning, with Bortles relying on his arm almost exclusively, not getting his shoulder or body into the throw at all. It doesn't even look like the same guy from UCF. Somehow Simms still listed Bortles above Mettenberger on his ranking of rookie quarterbacks. No chance. Mettenberger and Bridgewater are close for the top spot, based on long term potential, Manziel is incomplete grade regardless of how he fares for the remainder, Carr is a moderate and unimpressive 3rd, and Blake Bortles is last.

Strangely Bortles relaxes and throws the ball much better when the play breaks down and he's forced to improvise. From the pocket he's a tense disaster.

I'm not sure he can fix this completely. It's so far gone. Simms did an excellent comparison to Mettenberger of the Titans, who looked surprisingly dangerous this season. He was zinging the ball downfield unlike a rookie.

I liked Bortles, but not where the Jaguars took him. Top of the draft should be reserved for guys who have been expected to slot there for years.

Another concern about Bortles is he seems to be a country bumpkin out there. Instead of studying screen captures on the sideline he was juggling a football. When Jed Fisch tried to show him something from a binder Bortles seemed half interested. There is concern about Manziel's dedication but from what I've seen it applies more accurately to Bortles.

Prior to last year's draft I would have preferred Bortles' potential to Tannehill. Now I go the other way. If there's anything I can't stand it's the guys who wing it mindlessly on a rope.

We should make a move for Cutler after making a run at Matty Ice and Roethlisberger. Cutler would be a huge upgrade from Tannehill.

Oh, please do!!! 2 guaranteed wins for the Bills and Pats and maybe even the Jests (especially if y'all get Rex Ryan as your HC!)

Seriously, Cutler is a coach killer. He's poised to take down his 3rd HC (Shanahan, Lovie Smith, and Marc Trestman) and about his 5th OC. He's JP Losman with more polish and more talent around him. He's Ryan Fitzpatrick with more arm strength and less leadership and smarts. There's a reason that numerous writers and commentators compare him to the legendary Jeff George: million dollar arm, ten cent brain.

However, if the Dolphins feel the need to continue missing the playoffs, then Cutler is your man since he's led exactly 1 team to the playoffs in his 9 year career.

Cutler won't be in the picture for the Cardinals, Browns, or Dolphins. That's a silly graphic. Honestly I don't think he will even be in the picture for the Bills. Orton isn't great but he's cheap, but I'd rather have a cheap Orton than a bank-breaking Cutler.

Though to be fair, I completely agree with tyler. I am no fan of Cutler, but it is impossible to watch the Bears play football and say "Yup they're just a QB away." They're a coach, a coordinator, a defense, better blocking, and maybe one less locker room cancer away from being good. Now, whether or not that one less locker room cancer is Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, or Martellus Bennett, I don't know, but you figure it out.

Kyle Orton ain't much but Cutler's NOT $20-30 million better than him. Cutler might NOT be even $3 million better, but the fact is that Cutler is guaranteed $15.5 million next season. On March 12, 2015, if he's on Chicago's roster, he's due $10 million guaranteed for 2016 plus the rest of his guaranteed monies for 2016, so it all adds up to about $38 million for 2 years 2015 and 2016. If a team were to cut him before the 2016 season, they'd have paid $26 million for a one year rental.

I think Chicago is going to have to eat a large part of the contract to shed Cutler. If they cut him before March 12, 2015, they're in for $15.5 in 2015 and I think $3 or $4 million for 2016. In order to trade him, they're going to have to pick up some of that guaranteed money to get any nibbles. Of course, they might just clean out their GM and coaching staff and keep Cutler. Mike Shanahan is looking for a job.

If Cutler does come to Miami, can he bring his BFF back with him!? :)

Just kidding!
I do not want Cutler and even though I did hate seeing BMarsh leave, I think Miami is fine without him.
