Jaylen Waddle was the best receiver in the 2021 draft- A study

I just hope his ankle is fully healed and he's healthy.

We all know he's the most explosive WR in the draft.

I would argue Kyle Pitts professional potential ceiling is far greater than Kelcie…Waddle’s ceiling might be a Tyreek Hill ceiling at best!

Just my opinion…….
He’s a great prospect. We’ll see if his career lives up to it’s potential. I would’ve been thrilled if we got Pitts, but maybe Waddle + the TE we took from Boston College will prove to be a good combo as well. Either way, this team hasn’t had so much talent and depth in I don’t know how long, maybe since the 90’s

No, I get it... the guys who are fast AND quick are unicorn types who will get open quick and then outrun the defense... but they will struggle in end-line and side-line work because of their shorter stature. Sometimes raw size and a huge catch radius are needed, especially in tight areas... Then you look for guys like Gesicki or Williams.

This isn't a bad thing, it's just a bit of a limiting factor, just as you'll take out an undersized RB like Gaskin inside the five and insert a guy like Brown.

I think Waddle should be very, very good... and am hoping for great, but there are areas of the field that he's made for (space), and areas where he will be the third or fourth option... and that's ok.

I agree, but, rarely mentioned is vision - seeing the hole, seeing the defenders. Those two traits are critical for a receiver. I little I've sen in waddle, he has them.

Agreed... but that is the hardest thing to measure. We really never know what a player sees, or whether they just guessed correctly, or even if they've just been coached to break a certain way at a certain time... sometimes, I think we confuse quickness with vision-- conflating the two.

But I would agree that Waddle seems to have it. Sort of an inborn ability to quickly move into the soft spots of the defense.

I said it before he runs a bit like a good RB. Most fast WRs will catch turn up and run to where they see the most daylight. Waddle will just almost stop and wait for a tackler to commit then bounce away like a RB. He has very good patience with the ball and let's things develop. That is why some posters in a different thread were thinks Grant was faster on film. Grant is definitely not faster. Waddle just doesn't always go full out, he has that wait and feel to his running.

I think Waddle has a very high ceiling in the NFL. Most scouts had Waddle as the most physically gifted/highest upside of all the Bama WRs. Waddles efficiency numbers at Bama have always been amazing. This year he was finally getting more volume and still really efficient. Before he was hurt he came down with 87.5% of his targets.

I agree with you guys and like FeverDream said, if he produces seasons like Hill's last two then we will all be very happy, thrilled even. Anyone have an update on that ankle and his overall health? I know he pulled down some deep passes at OTA's but is he 100% for training camp do you all think?

If the OL is good enough to give Waddle a 2nd cut on his routes semi frequently, he may win OROY.

I really don't expect more than 400 to 600 yards receiving and 3 to 5 TD from Waddle this year personally.

Edit: Though I'm interested to see if we use him in the ground game at all. I can see us running some RPO using him in motion across the line.
