1 - Houston - Reggie Bush, HB, USC
I'm not even sold on Reggie Bush as the best running back in this draft and a "can't-miss" prospect. Houston needs offensive linemen and defensive help. In a perfect world, they trade down.
2 - New Orleans - Matt Leinart, QB, USC
Probably an accurate pick.
3 - Tennessee - Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt
Maybe. Tennessee has far more pressing needs, I think. I still find it amusing that Cutler has improved his stock so drastically by really not doing much of anything positive.
4 - N.Y. Jets - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, T, Virginia
Maybe. The Jets have far more pressing needs, such as a running back as well as a quarterback. It would be unlikely that they would not take Young if he were here.
5 - Green Bay - Mario Williams, DE, NC State
Again, while everybody has this projection, Green Bay has one outstanding Pro Bowl DE and another one that's steadily improving. DE is among the least of their needs, with the possible exception of WR. The "best player available" mentality does not apply to a team with this many holes.
6 - San Francisco - Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland
Though injuries are a concern for Eric Johnson, he's among the best player on the 49ers. It's unlikely they would take him over any of the far more pressing needs - many of which have excellent prospects available.
7 - Oakland - A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State
Probably a good pick if he's around. Oakland needs defense. However, if Young were here, all bets are off.
8 - Buffalo - Michael Huff, S, Texas
Probably a good pick as well. Buffalo's safeties are older than Jesus (except Coy Wire).
9 - Detroit - Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon
Probably a good pick. Detroit needs defensive help. *Again*, however, if Young were here, all bets are off.
10 - Arizona - Deangelo Williams, RB, Memphis
Arizona is more likely to go defense, I think. This is more of a toss-up.
11 - St. Louis - Vince Young, QB, Texas
Why would St. Louis take a quarterback? Until Bulger leaves that team, they aren't taking Young. The Rams are going to be needing defense at almost every position.
12 - Cleveland - Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa
Cleveland needs offense a little bit more. Chad Jackson or LenDale White are pretty good options here.
13 - Baltimore - Jimmy Williams, DB, Virginia Tech
Probably a good pick. Baltimore has some pretty old cornerbacks. The CBA weighs into this as well.
14 - Philadelphia - Chad Jackson, WR, Florida
Another WR is definitely a need for Philadelphia. However, depending on the status of Westbrook, an RB is possible. Very few players have successfully recovered from Lis Franc sprains.
15 - Atlanta - Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota
This assumes that Warrick Dunn is cut, correct? Because I would think they need passing options more. I mean, it's possible, but Atlanta's running game has been its strength, and will probably continue regardless of who they sign or release.
16 - Miami - Manny Lawson, DE/LB, NC State
Miami isn't drafting a defensive end. I'd say an offensive tackle or even a safety is far better. Cornerbacks are possible were they to be available.
17 - Minnesota - Lendale White, RB, USC
Minnesota could use him, but it's doubtful he'll drop here.
18 - Dallas - Winston Justice, OT, USC
While tackle isn't a bad pick for them, they could probably use a safety or definitely a middle linebacker.
19 - San Diego - Ko Simpson, S, South Carolina
Given San Diego's situation, I think they're going to go WR here. It's a need and there will likely be better options available.
20 - Kansas City - Ernie Sims, LB, FSU
KC also needs receivers. Linebacking, at this point, is one of their strengths, with Derrick Johnson and Kendrell Bell.
21 - New England - Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State
Depends highly on what they do in free agency. If Givens comes back, it's unlikely. If a running back is available (Please not LenDale White) they'll likely go that direction. Defense is also a possibility.
22 - Denver f/WAS - Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami (FL)
Probably a good pick.
23 - Tampa Bay - Broderick Bunkley, DT, FSU
Probably a good pick.
24 - Cincinnati - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College
Probably a good pick. Actually, this would be a fantastic pick for them.
25 - N.Y. Giants - Gabe Watson, DT, Michigan
They need a linebacker much more than a tackle. Umenyiora and Strahan are still pretty solid in stopping the run on that line, which makes DT adequate for the time being.
26 - Chicago - Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia
Desmond Clark is one of the better receiving options on their team. They need a quarterback and more receiving more than a tight end. I don't know what their options are, but the best offensive player here likely will be picked since their offense/defense balance is so lopsided.
27 - Carolina - Max Jean-Giles, G, Georgia
Not a bad pick. I would think it would make more sense for them to make a move on a running back. Free agency will have a huge impact on their pick.
28 - Jacksonville - Tamba Hali, DE, Penn State
Jacksonville needs a tight end and a more reliable running back before Hali. Additionally, I don't think Hali will be on the board here. Jacksonville doesn't have a lot of glaring needs. Again, free agency will have an impact on this pick.
29 - Denver - Darnell Bing, S, USC
Not a bad pick. Denver needs a replacement for Lynch. Bing isn't it, but he's not bad all the same. He might be a stretch for the first round.
30 - Indianapolis - Joseph Addai, RB, LSU
This depends largely on the CBA and free agency. I don't know who they would go, but Addai is a stretch in the first round and I think they'll find another option either with James or a veteran free agent.
31 - Seattle - Demeco Ryans, LB, Alabama
Not a bad pick. Seattle doesn't have very many needs, so I can't really say.
32 - Pittsburgh - Tye Hill, CB, Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh has no really glaring needs - if it's possible, they might draft a franchise-type of running back. It's hard to toss Willie Parker away all the same. I doubt CB is a good pick for them, given that Taylor, Colclough and McFadden are all young and all look pretty good. That's why they let Townsend go.
Then again, I'm horrible at projecting drafts, as I'm only capable of adding question marks to the average mock draft.
