1. Who says Gurode wants to move to Miami? Has anybody actually considered that?
2. Maybe we want him and can't afford his demands under our latest salary cap calculations. The FO know who they're going to cut and what the budget is. We don't. They know their plans with Soliai's franchise tag. We don't.
3. Gurode is not a guard. Gurode is not a tackle. If we sign him, we move a first round rookie, who has had precious little prep time as it is, to a new position. All the playbook work has to be re-absorbed by Pouncey, all the moves relearned. Gurode himself will have to pick up the playbook. We play the most important game of the season in under two weeks against the Pats.
4. Sparano has tinkered a lot with this line. His latest tinker, moving Carey to guard, is best described as a work-in-progress. I'm guessing he's reluctant to tinker more and would only consider signing a guard or tackle.
None of the above means signing Gurode is or isn't a good idea. But there are a lot of reasons why Darlington is saying it's probably unlikely than "This FO SUCKS!".
