Jeff Darlington's take on the Fin's draft

Although there's inevitably one or more Pavlovian reactive responses to any report that depicts a Fins decision favorably, especially the less than obvious, unpopular or unfamiliar ones. Considering the past quicksand of missteps,, certainly that visceral spittle-spew is understood. However, still, preemptively, it's probably helpful to remember that "google is your friend."

I don't think AZ was after James, you know why? Because they did not select ONE offensive linemen in the draft.

Now, if James starts at RT for us, i have no problem if we reach for him.

Maybe because AZ feels confident over the reasons that they did not choose an OL. As that is why!

Well then we'll see who's right and who's wrong. But going for value over need isn't exactly the right call.

i.e. Trading up for Jordan, but no taking an o-lineman last year until round 3. So going for the homerun player at a position of strength, rather than getting the best you can in an area of weakness. I'm not saying that I know which way is the right way to go, or that there is some generalized and proven rule of which way you should go. But so far, Jordan is has been underused, and our o-line sucked. Maybe down the road Jordan will become what we hope he will, and our o-line comes around. But so far, it has kinda sucked.

Just remember we only have a fraction of the intel that these draft rooms have. If they said they were concerned with AZ they prob were with good reason.

No way did our Draft room have more info then phinking. That is absurd to even think that. :chuckle:

I love the reactions of some on this board:

Respected and nationally-known journalist: "I have information stating this is why the Dolphins did something."

Finheaven analyst: "Nuh UH! That's stupid!"

Ding ding - and the pavlovian dog salivates. However, Jeff is not a pavlovian bitch - just friendly pup. Heel!

Now that I researched James versus the remaining tackles at that point in the draft, I am very happy with Hickey's decision. I just do not believe a team could offer enough value to make it worth the risk. Further, I would have drafted James over Martin if he had been available. We needed a RT.
