Jeff Fisher chimes in on public critcism of Ireland

Jeff must have been "very, very, very, very, very, very" impressed with the Rams front office to choose to go there instead for less money

Doesn't his agent's father work in the front office in some capacity? :ponder:

He was going to the Rams from day one.

Funny how the madden players and crusaders believed him when he said he was seriously considering the Dolphins, but now he suddenly is not believable. :chuckle:

Why would he attack the front office in public? That wouldn't make sense. But the proof is all there. Taking less money from the Rams of all teams. Pretty obvious what the deal is. Front office not filled by clowns and the chance to build around a QB instead of still looking for one 13 years later.
There are reasons why Fisher chose the Rams over the Dolphins, but "front office full of clowns" was NOT a reason why.

* As you mentioned, having Bradford(who some might consider a franchise quarterback) was already on the roster.
* The 2nd overall pick, which could be flipped for a boatload of future picks. Which they already did.
* Was offered complete control of the Rams football operation. Always dangerous to give a coach full control. Ross was smart not to offer full control
* The son of his agent was in charge of the Rams, so he had family familiarity with the Rams.

But I guess you can choose to ignore the facts above and just go with the "Front office is full of clowns" idea. You can also ignore that it was widely reported that if Ireland was on the market he would have been one of Fisher's top candidates to be his GM(which means Fisher likes Ireland).

i think the qb outlook weighed heavily here...i know i'd rather bet on sam bradford than what we have in house...

So therefore he could get the "warts-and-all" inside scoop on the Rams - as opposed to the version they want you to see

And he still went there

Then there was / is the rumor they move back to LA which was a negative for Fisher

And he still went there

fish is not dumb enough to burn a hiring bridge by throwing flames on the fire after he passes on a job...so if you think he was gonna validate publicly that he didn't take the job cause of the front office that would never happen...

I'm sure the fact they had a QB in place, and the 2nd overall pick had nothing to do with it...

Part of your last sentence is why I think he chose the Rams. I don't think it had anything to do with the front office. Can you show me a link that says he took less money to be the Rams coach? Didn't he get 8 million a year?

Anytime we don't sign a guy everyone assumes it was becasue they chose to sign elsewhere. Has anyone ever thought that maybe we don't offer what the others teams do becasue we don't value them as highly. (Flynn)

Whatever the true reason, I'm glad Fisher didn't come here. Forget about his mediocrity as a head coach, but the guy signed Shotty as OC and a DC that is now out of the league. That would have been a great start for Mia. :rolleyes2:

Exactly! Players sign with teams for a variety of reasons, and the biggest one is for more $$. I'm glad we didn't pay Flynn what Sea did. I'm glad we didn't give Fisher full control. The same type of things happen all the time to every other team, but only with the Dolphins the reason has to be the front office.

Manning signed a 5 year $96 MILLION contract. He could have signed with the 49ers who are a much better team than the Broncos, but he signed with the Broncos. Where is the story about the ineptness of the 49ers, Cards or Titans, or any other team in the Manning sweepstakes? Where is the story about Saturday choosing to sign with the Packers instead of the Broncos. Didn't everyone assume he would sign wherever Peyton signed? He must think the Broncos front office is a joke since he didn't sign with them. What about Leron Landry signing with the Jets instead of the Pats? How about Asomugha signing with the Eagles instead of the Cowboys or Jets last year. Ect..Ect...

There is no doubt in my mind that if the Dolphins offered Flynn a comparable contract that he would have signed with them. Offers are different and if the Dolphins aren't willing to offer what others teams are offering, who is rejecting who?

There is no way Fisher is going to come out and openly bash a current NFL GM to the media. He has been working in the NFL for a very long time, he knows the game, and he's way too classy to come out and talk about it if he doesn't like somebody.

In other words, the article means nothing. Even if Fisher disliked Ireland, you would never hear about it.

Reaching

That QB (who has done nothing so far) has a pretty awful contract. When it was suggested, for example, that we trade for Bradford NOBODY thought that was a good idea ("too expensive", "injury prone", "lot to prove" etc) so it would be silly to pretend the Rams are set at QB when there's a fairly good chance (i.e. if SB isn't the answer) that they are worse off than us. At least Moore is cheap

And sure they have the 2nd pick. There's a reason for that. It's because they are awful and they have been for years

Eh. I think the matter was pretty simple. Fisher wanted final say regarding personnel and Ross wouldn't give it to him. Hence he went to the rams.

bingo

I've really got no use for Fisher, like 80% of us before his "decision" so I'd take whatEVER he says with a grain of salt. However I have no doubt that if he came out and attacked Ireland, the Pavlovian DroolFest overflow would be nearing the epic proportions of the Johnstown Flood around here QFTing what they're now discrediting. :idk:

Fisher could have been terse but polite. Instead he elaborated at length why he liked Ireland. He didn't need to go as far as he did. He could have used coach-speak, but instead gave a candid specific assessment. So, it means something.

Both sides are right. In a way, Jeff Ireland was the reason why Fisher didnt come here. That being said, it wasnt because he thought this front office was a mad house or because he hated Ireland.

Above all else, Fisher didnt want to a repeat of his experience in Tennessee. He wanted a owner who wasnt afraid to spend money. He wanted a owner who would differ decisions to his "football people". And he wanted to be a location that wasnt rumored to be moving in a few seasons. He would have had all of that in Miami.
Unlike what people on here are saying, Fisher didnt want full control of his team. He is one of the few coaches who actually likes the "traditional" front office setup. Hell, he won something of a power struggle while in Tennessee and had more control there then he would have here(save for their meddling owner of course). What Jeff Fisher did want was a say in drafts and free agency. He didnt want players forced upon him by fiat like the situation with Vince Young(and the new coaching staffs situation with Peyton Manning). He basically wanted roughly the same level of power that Tony Sparano had in his final offseason.

Despite those, what i would consider reasonable, demands Jeff Fisher was denied. I recall Fisher's final offer to Ross was a plan that if he and Ireland disagreed on a draft pick they would seek out a mutually agreed upon third party to settle any dispute. Ross wanted Ireland to have full control, so he denied the suggestion. It has been speculated that Ross felt confident with denying the suggestions because Fisher did in fact love the idea of being the coach of the Dolphins. Its more than a bit ironic because Jeff Fisher DOES like Ireland and had Ireland been free Fisher would have pushed the Rams to hire him.

In the end it didnt work out. Fisher took less money, a more financially conservative owner, and dealing with a potential move to coach the Rams. Oh, and how "he could trade the number 2 pick away" thing people keep pointing out, according to Peter King that was mostly driven by their new GM, who has earned alot of points around the league for not playing the Browns and Redskins off each other.....despite the sob story Mike Holmgren is spinning.
