Jeff Ireland = no impact . Trying to be safe, you'll only end up being sorry, & LOSE

Misi with his short arms. Misi, the guy who can't get off blocks and makes no big plays. He's just another disappointment in a long line of disappointments our team has brought in over the years.

It interesting to me how a team like say, the patriots, are actually not that good in the draft. This fact is even more interesting when you take into consideration the amount of picks they seem to have in comparison to other teams. What about other teams?

But hey like the saying goes Winning Cures All. If your lucky enough to find a Tom Brady you have the best GM in the world.

Yes indeed. EVERYONE understands winning, even the people who just barely understand professional football.

This is one of the things that makes the NFL so profitable. It has a very BROAD appeal. Loads of people just want to buy merchandise and watch the superbowl.

Sports writers cater to those people most. You know, the ones who cry the loudest. :D

Each of Ireland's First round picks are starters. Instead of just bitching, compare him to other GM's and I think you would be surprised. Bill Polian's name was mentioned by many on here as a replacement (and even by a national journalist) What players out of this list gets you excited? 2011 Anthony Castanzo T, 2010 DE Jerry Hughes (who Polian himself admitted was a bad pick), 2009 - RB Donald Brown, 2008 (no first round pick, their first pick #59, second round) G Mike Pollak. Do any of those picks get you excited? They shouldn't.

Donald Brown gets me excited:

Awsi Dooger, who is far and away the best and most intelligent poster on this board, and a very successful handicapper I might add,, summarized it best:

I don't think he has any grasp of the burden of that method, particularly at the quarterback position. You need the league to go 1-31, with yours the only correct assessment.

It reminds me of the Storage Wars TV show on A&E. It took all of one episode for me to figure out that Dave Hester was the sharp speculator on that show, the one with unique insight in a mix of conventional wisdom clods. Hester understands there is value at the extremes. He'll invariably make sure he wins the high priced classy lockers, the ones that could be worth anything. Hester also grabs the near empty rooms; "If you can't risk $40 you won't be around long in this business."

The others fight over moderately priced rooms in a misplaced belief that the value lies there. They'll compete and take those lockers far too high while all but giving up when Hester targets a room with obvious gems, like one episode with new vending machines just sitting there throughout the locker.

The dynamics remind me exactly of fans and general managers who put too much faith in second rounders, foolishly believing it's akin to sneaking a first round talent at bargain rate, but actually a remarkable path to waste year after year while never conceding, or even suspecting, that the approach is flawed. The Hester method would be to outbid and demoralize the competition when a freakish quarterback talent is staring everyone in the face, while persistently looking for late round or free agent guys who don't cost anything but could turn into Romo or Flynn.

Dave Hester also can afford to hit and miss on the higher priced units. Seeing as he had the capital and assets to offset any loses. Its easy to be a great speculator when you have the biggest wad of cash in the room. The analogy by Awsi has no bearing here, and there for shows the standards you have for debating football topics.

Love how the best Ireland defense now amounts to... 'oh no, not another bash Ireland thread, just what we needed.' Wave the white flag already... The OP's argument is legit.

This SPIN and constant reference to his so called 'draft record' (which btw is ENTIRELY subjective) as an example of how the man is a superior talent evaluator is CONSTANTLY overshadowed by his total lack of ability to evaluate his own personnel... Case in point, HENNE.

Nobody will argue we are in desperate need of a QB right now, not even Ireland himself, but we could have made that exact statement a year ago heading into LAST years draft!!! The fact that he selected ZERO QB's... Nada... Bupkiss... Says one OR BOTH of two things... He either wrongly evaluated Henne heading into his contract year... Or he puts little to no stock on the QB position...

Understand something... This has NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO WAS AVAILABLE... there is simply no excuse to delay the development of the program a year BY STANDING PAT... Please tell me how we are supposed to be happy about either of those two ludicrous outcomes... Last years season was OVER before the half way mark and you Ireland 'supporters' want to forego accountability... Awesome. :bobdole:

And people will want to storm Miami with the proverbial torches and pitchforks if Ireland drafts an o-lineman with the 1st pick in next months draft

Oh look...a Jeff Ireland sucks thread! Like we've never seen one of these before, rehashing the same thing!

And what QB did you want him to attempt to take? Ponder? Gabbert? It is really easy to scream Ireland has no produced a QB yet. But which one did you want him to take? Should he have traded up to get Ponder, would the team be in a better situation? How about Gabbert? Did he look like the answer? Ireland does not get credit for not overreacting to an ignorant fan base's screams to get Kyle Orton last year, but he should. Instead he signed Moore, who was ranked 12th in QB rating in the NFL last year. Ahead of Ponder, Gabbert, Andy Dalton, and Cam Newton (all were drafted last year.) If you look at Ireland's drafts and compare them against other GM's in the league, people would realize that he is much better than he is given credit for. And reaching on any player, QB or otherwise usually does not work out in the long run.

Umm Ireland should get EXACTLY ZERO credit for not overpaying Orton since Ross was the one who VETO'ed that decision... Your brilliant boy Jeff had the contract in hand all ready for Orton's 'John Han****' when ROSS said NO. but really what choice did Ireland have than to overpay for other teams castaways when he didn't even bother to select a developmental project? Ireland handcuffed HIMSELF...

Seriously, What leverage did he have with Denver when he had NOBODY in house???? So MOORE was actually the 'fallback' after the owner said 'hells no' to Orton. And you want to give Ireland credit??????

The point was... And STATED... that it didn't matter who they selected. The fact that he didn't even get in on the bidding tells me all I need to know about Jeff. He either overrated Henne or didn't value the position... We are in PRECISELY the same spot as last year heading into the draft... In fact some might argue WORSE off... And yet people want to applaud him for being 'forward' thinking. Unreal.
