Jeff Ireland, success / failure?

The problem with this thread is that we don't know how many of those picks were done by Parcells and not Ireland. You also forgot to include Cam Wake and this years very promising draft class.

I so agree with you. I think Jimmy Wilson, Mike Pouncey, and Clyde Gates are going to be major contributors for us. Still think the jury is out on Thomas and Clay, but have high hopes for them. Not a flashy draft, but if they can find five future NFL starters, that is a marvelous draft.

Listen to what the players around the NFL say and you'll have your answer.

He's best in the scouting department, not running a franchise.

I think he has done really well, don't forget the free agents. Cam Wake, Starks, Dansby, Burnett, Polite etc. Hopefully this is the year we hit on offensive players. If Henne shows no progress this year, QB will be our main target in the next draft. I think he should stick, getting a QB is hard.

Thats the same thing everyone who likes Ireland, Henne, and Sparano(Basically those suffering from Parcellsitis) said last year. Did we do anything about the QB position? What makes people think he would do anything about it next offseason?

I still would not pick Ryan over Long

:rolleyes2:

Im going to tell you this and I said this the time we drafted Jake Long. No matter what QB we drafted unless he was a Michael Vick type QB, every quarterback would of failed if we did not draft a left tackle. Jake Long was the right move, Matt Ryan would of failed in our situation. Our team was soooo bad when Cameron left. It was the worse dolphin football team ever!

:rolleyes2:

I'll say it like this...I like Ireland as our GM,better than i do Sparano as our HC...should Sparano get fired,i think Ireland will stay our GM,and that means Henne failed.

I don't think Jeff will want to see another GM get hired, get us the right QB,and win with said QB,and the team he helped build, then get credit for us winning. He's put alot of talent on our phins, and he's missed also, but i feel good about Ireland as our GM. Once he gets us our next Franchise QB,we'll be good to go.

I like Ireland's drafting in general, and of course there are picks nobody likes, but overall I think he's done well. There are only 3 or 4 holdovers on the roster since he became GM, and the rest were brought in by him or Parcells. I think he's assembled some good talent over 4 drafts.

The obvious point is that he hasn't brought in a successful QB. I think some of that may have to do with Parcells choosing Pat White, and having to rescind some personnel power to Sparano as a result of the Harbaugh fiasco. Sparano wanted people that can help him win now, so Ireland drafted players that can help now over developmental players, such as a QB (ie Mallet).

Its become known that Long was Parcells decision. I think you have to judge Ireland on what we know he did on his own.

How can anyone be considered successful when they trade away a player along with the player's entire family and only receive a 5th round pick as compensation?

This......... and didn't Parcells admit to pulling the trigger on Pat White recently??

I agree, that to be considered a success Ireland needs to draft a franchise QB. Drafting 3 players good enough to start each year is a success....................only if you have the QB to complement.

I don't know man i think matt Ryan is turning into a good QB, we would have Vernon carey as our Left tackle still but look at how quick Ryan reads the field. you can only get to the passer so quick.

I thought Parcells had the total say while he was here and that is why we drafted Pat White?

it all starts with the qb, i dont care how good your o-line is, with no qb you aint doing jack ****. Ireland has had 3-4 years to get us a 1st round qb and he has passed up every time. I would not want him as my gm thats for sure.

We had the worst team I've ever seen 4 years ago. We now have every piece but a QB. Yes the most important piece but everything is starting to come together. I think the oline could be better as well but we have some talent obviously there. If for some reason the fo gets fired some new coach is going to be very happy with the prices he is inheriting, especially a guy like Cowher who runs a 3-4. Gruden gets credit for Tampa when that was dungy's team. The same thing going to happen here.
