Joe Philbin has not won in Buffalo as the Dolphins head coach.

He lost in Buffalo in 2012 -- final score 19-14 -- and he lost in Buffalo last season -- with that one going down in the media guide as a 19-0 score.

So why do I bring up this sour fact while you're still shopping for hotels in Phoenix for Super Bowl 49, following last week's season-opening win over New England?

To say this: The Dolphins go to Buffalo again this weekend. And while the same head coach is leading this Miami team, it is already clear it is a different type of coaching staff.
This one?

Better. Upgraded.

The view from multiple angles is that when Philbin relented (because he didn't want to) and fired friend, mentor and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman and then replaced him with Bill Lazor, the Dolphins head coach did himself and the franchise a service.

In getting Lazor, Philbin picked a rising commodity in the coaching ranks. Multiple NFL people have told me Lazor will be a head coach candidate within three-to-five years assuming his work continues its current trajectory. He is demanding. He is "real," with players as quarterback Ryan Tannehill said Wednesday. And he's got a good scheme that has pulled plays from his multiple experiences and stops both in the NFL and college

Pretty good blog from Armando. Didn't realize we had a new assistant O-line coach as well.

We indeed have a much better coaching staff than last year.....Hopefully this will be the deciding point in beating a good Buffalo team up there.

Joe Philbin was FORCED to upgrade his staff.

Let not that remarkable point go unnoticed in all the glow of an improved team.

He had to be forced to upgrade -- so much so that he almost resigned.

Sad, really. It means he is clueless on coaching talent (not to mention the colossal misjudgments on player talent so far in two years).

Not only was he forced but he was forced by the late Bill Parcells.

Therefore, Jeff Ireland was an amazing GM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIP Bill.

At the moment, I do not care how it happened. We have better coaches, and that makes me happy.

No it doesn't. It means it was hard for him to pull the trigger on a mentor and close friend. Loyalty is something that this game lost a long time ago and every once in a while it's good to see that it still exists.

It's appears clear that he is confident with Lazor and is not looking back so let's not constantly find something to bash. We upgraded without a doubt and things are going so much better, yet there's always a group that has to find some way to tear down a positive and try to create dissension.

So who gets credit for hiring the new coaches...in your mind?

All I know is if we hold the Bills to 19 again and don't come away with the victory I'm going to give a major face palm.

Philbin may have been forced to get rid of Sherman, but Ross wasn't forced to fire Jeff Ireland. That guy did more damage to this team than Sherman ever could, and Hickey has helped this team immensely this offseason.
If the Fins played last Sunday with last years starting O Line... Moreno is not the leading rusher in the NFL, and maybe not even top 15.
Lazor's got Branden Albert and Ju'Wuan James, 2 possibly multi-year pro-bowl tackles. I think that has some effect on our offense, wouldn't you think?

Also, I think Coyle's pretty good, including a lot of the other position coaches we've picked up.

Philbin gets the blame for what Ireland was responsible for. And Ross gets the credit for what Philbin was responsible for.

At least you're fair about it.....

The obvious, most impacting upgrade was Lazor as HC...but you gotta throw in the 2 new OL coaches in the mix too...and our bottom LBs did well last week, possibly helped by the new LB coach?

I'm going to wait on applauding Coyle. Defense always plays better when the offense is running the ball down the other team's throat.
