Would Hickey get any credit?
Would Hickey get any credit?
Philbin may have been forced to get rid of Sherman, but Ross wasn't forced to fire Jeff Ireland. That guy did more damage to this team than Sherman ever could, and Hickey has helped this team immensely this offseason.
If the Fins played last Sunday with last years starting O Line... Moreno is not the leading rusher in the NFL, and maybe not even top 15.
Lazor's got Branden Albert and Ju'Wuan James, 2 possibly multi-year pro-bowl tackles. I think that has some effect on our offense, wouldn't you think?
Also, I think Coyle's pretty good, including a lot of the other position coaches we've picked up.
Let's see, J-mart helped facilitate the following:Jonathan Martin.
Would Hickey get any credit?
I'm pretty sure those were Philbins fault too lol.Not for the coaching changes as that was all taken care of before he got here. But if we make the playoffs I think he gets credit for bringing in several players that (in theory) will have gelled greatly. I mean looking at the roster he'll have brought in all but 3 offensive linemen (Pouncey, Garner, and Thomas), Knowshon Moreno, Earl Mitchell, Louis Delmas, Courtland Finnegan (half of the starting secondary), and resigned Randy Starks and Brent Grimes (no brainers to do, but given Ireland's dealings in the past not give ins). That's a decent first haul.
Fun fact about the coaching staff, Mark Duffner was the first guy Philbin requested to interview for our DC job when he got hired but the Jaguars refused to let us interview him.
And while Philbin was "forced" to make changes, he deserves all the credit for (what looks like) making changes for the better. Remember, Tony Sparano offered Dan Henning a contract extension and Henning refused as he was feeling the heat himself. Sparano interviewed some young assistants that got people excited but then went with the recently fired Brian Daboll. And let's not forget the Jon Bonomongo and Paul Pasqualoni fiascos.
Yes, Philbin has hired better coaches around him. But...will it improve his gameday coaching? Will he learn better clock management? Will he learn when to accept or not accept a penalty? Will this team, overall, play more consistent from week to week? That's what I want to see.
The guy did some absolutely brain dead stuff during games last season.
oh really.
