Joe Philbin has improved Miami Dolphins coaching staff

Philbin and his new staff did a great job against the Patriots. They have a huge test this week going up to Buffalo to face a team that they have struggled against. The new offensive line is going to have to prove themselves while Tannehill needs to get that monkey off his back and take care of the Bills.

Would Hickey get any credit?

The fruitloops haven't thought ahead for that contingency...

Jonathan Martin and Dion Jordan was all Philbin.
Jarvis Landry and Chris McCain? The credit goes to.....

Philbin may have been forced to get rid of Sherman, but Ross wasn't forced to fire Jeff Ireland. That guy did more damage to this team than Sherman ever could, and Hickey has helped this team immensely this offseason.
If the Fins played last Sunday with last years starting O Line... Moreno is not the leading rusher in the NFL, and maybe not even top 15.
Lazor's got Branden Albert and Ju'Wuan James, 2 possibly multi-year pro-bowl tackles. I think that has some effect on our offense, wouldn't you think?

Also, I think Coyle's pretty good, including a lot of the other position coaches we've picked up.

If we do end up making the playoffs, looking back, it'll be Hickey who was the biggest upgrade. From my POV (although I know others would disagree), there's nothing not to like about him - at least so far.

It's early but the new GM and coaches along with Joe seem to have put together a solid team. Nice to finally have back ups who can step in and play.
I'll hold off on a final grade but so far so good.

Jonathan Martin.
Let's see, J-mart helped facilitate the following:
(1) Exposure of a dysfunctional locker room and serious drug issues within the team
(2) The departure of turds like Incognito and Jerry from the team.
(2a) J-mart's own departure from the team.
(3) The departure of Sherman and his chronically bad Go, Go Go playcalling.
(4) The subsequent addition of Bill Lazor has also been the key to Tannehill's development as a QB.
(5) Lazor seems to have brought a better and far more potent Offensive system.
(6) The exit of Jim Turner (Mike's first cousin) as O-line Coach. Benton is a big upgrade.
(7) The departure of Jeff Ireland as GM (Hickey already appears to have brought more talent into the building) and we now have a Head Coach and GM working together.
(8) Joe Philbin also got closer to his players because he previously didn't want to encroach on Mike's turf.
Not too bad for a reptile...

Would Hickey get any credit?

Not for the coaching changes as that was all taken care of before he got here. But if we make the playoffs I think he gets credit for bringing in several players that (in theory) will have gelled greatly. I mean looking at the roster he'll have brought in all but 3 offensive linemen (Pouncey, Garner, and Thomas), Knowshon Moreno, Earl Mitchell, Louis Delmas, Courtland Finnegan (half of the starting secondary), and resigned Randy Starks and Brent Grimes (no brainers to do, but given Ireland's dealings in the past not give ins). That's a decent first haul.

Fun fact about the coaching staff, Mark Duffner was the first guy Philbin requested to interview for our DC job when he got hired but the Jaguars refused to let us interview him.

And while Philbin was "forced" to make changes, he deserves all the credit for (what looks like) making changes for the better. Remember, Tony Sparano offered Dan Henning a contract extension and Henning refused as he was feeling the heat himself. Sparano interviewed some young assistants that got people excited but then went with the recently fired Brian Daboll. And let's not forget the Jon Bonomongo and Paul Pasqualoni fiascos.

I'm pretty sure those were Philbins fault too lol.
Oh, and I like how the player personnel issues were somehow on Philbin but all the good moves since Hickey's been here are Hickey's doing but Philbin gets no credit. Haters gonna hate.

Yes, Philbin has hired better coaches around him. But...will it improve his gameday coaching? Will he learn better clock management? Will he learn when to accept or not accept a penalty? Will this team, overall, play more consistent from week to week? That's what I want to see.

The guy did some absolutely brain dead stuff during games last season.

I don't know if you play strategy games or not but I can pretty much guarantee you'll do a lot better if you just start doing the opposite of whatever your natural instincts are.

After one game it's blatantly clear lazor is a massive upgrade. No debate. Sherman was absolute carp.
