Joe Philbin plans to add athleticism to Dolphins' line

Tony Bergstrom with a 3rd rounde.r Tom Compton in the 4th. Jeff Adams in the 5th round.

With young Pouncey and maybe Jerry,(if he can keep his weight down), these five guys could guarantee a solid to great OL for years to come.
I like Compton a lot but wouldn't take him that high.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Miami picked Reiff in the 1st round since Iowa zone blocks.

If you look at the Texans and who they had on their line a lot of their players were drafted in the later rounds. Eric Winston and Chris Myers, two former Miami Hurricanes, were drafted in the 3rd and 6th round respectively. Duane Brown (LT) was a 1st round pick, 26th overall, Wade Smith was a 3rd round pick by us and Wannstedt tried him as a tackle and he sucked but he's playing LG for them and doing well and Antoine Caldwell is the RG and was a 3rd round pick.

In Green Bay they have Marshall Newhouse at LT (5th round pick), Evan Dietrich-Smith at LG (undrafted), Scott Wells at Center (7th round pick, although he is now with St. Louis and been replaced with Jeff Saturday), Josh Sitton at RG (4th round pick) and Bryan Bulaga at RT (1st round pick, 23rd overall).

It seems to me you can find athletic O-lineman later in the draft, something Ireland and Sparano couldn't figure out.

Without even looking, i'm almost positive the giants do not have a 1st round pick on the o-line. Their nasty d-line only has 1 first round pick in JPP and i think it's safe to say that guy is a freak. Perhaps the lesson learned there is you really shouldn't consider a lineman in the first round unless the guy's talent/potential is through the roof*.

James Brown round 2.

Solid pick. His vertical is off the charts. Motor that never stops. I like it.

Check out Dustin Waldron, Portland State. He's a later round guy but is extremely athletic. I had him in my latest mock.

Decastro #8...wait n c if tannehill is gone.lol I wouldn't be to upset though

BIG MISTAKE if we drat OL in the first round.. We need an Alpha receiver and a pass rusher... Hell even Morris Claiborne would be a great pick..

Swell ... a project plan on paper ... just what we need. Glad he did his powerpoint on athleticism, as opposed to couch-potatoism!!

Tony had those paper plans every year too ... then we sucked.

Assuming no trade down let's start to break things down by who we are not taking at 8. We are not taking an OL.

OL: We have the best LT in the league who was a 1st pick and is about to resign. We drafted an up and coming center in the 1st last year. We already have a lot of money invested in the line there is no way they are giving #8 money to another Olineman.
CB: only if Claiborne falls which is not likely.
S: none deserve to go that high.
RB: We are pretty decent at running back and it's been found that dominant RB's are taken anywhere in the draft and there is none this year with the vision of an AP. Richardson has the power and speed but doesn't strike me as an RB that makes an OLine look good. AP screamed great vision to go along with speed and power.
DT: We have in abundance whether for 4-3 or NT for 3-4.
FB: It damn well better not be
K: Just no
P: see above

We are left with QB, WR, MLB and pass rusher

MLB: With Dansby making what he does I doubt Kuechly. However Kuechly is really good at what he does and we may regret if we don't take him.
Passrusher: We are going to get someone that is flexible (DE/OLB dependent on base formation)in this draft. We are as desperate for a good passrusher to put opposite Wake as we are QB.
WR: Blackmon or Floyd would instantly become our #1
QB: We have 1 choice Tannehill. If Sherman says he is a go then it's a done deal. If he is gone oh well. I personally don't think He is worth it but Sherman would know better than anyone.

Out of those left MLB is the least likely but not impossible. Most likely Pass rusher or WR. I don't see it being Mr. Gator arms just based on Ireland and who he has learned from and been close to in the past. That size limitation on the edge really hurts. I personally don't think Coples is flexible enough and hate his lack of a Motor. So if we stay at 8 in my mind I'm watching for Blackmon or Floyd with Coples and Kuechly as the long shots. I smell a trade down coming though as Ireland is not going to give up the farm to move up. In a trade down scenario many things can change but there is only one person that performed like a top 10 pick that is not being projected to go top 10 right now and that is Whitney Mercilus. He has all the Flexibility we would need and is absolutely relentless. If we stay at 8 watch out for those 2 WRs they would be instant starters for us.

Going from most likely at 8 Blackmon, Floyd, Tannehill(desperation), Coples(Desperation), or Kuechly.

On one hand you continue to ignore the most important position on the field cause you're scared of failure and on the other hand the team never gets better because your too scared to draft a QB...either way you lose.

Do you know who led the league in least amount of sacks given up? Buffalo.

Far from ignoring the QB position, I don't see Tannehill in particular as the solution. I prefer Weeden. I would grab DeCastro with the eighth pick and either reach for Weeden with the second or package our two thirds to move up for him.

A lineman like DeCastro, who is athletic and can pull, is going to give you much more than pass blocking. He is going to move people out of the box for you so your backs can run. The run will open up the passing game.

Do you know how many games we lost during one of the seasons when this team had an athletic interior line that was dominant at the point of attack? None.

Are you referring to the 1972 season?

The fan base would go nuts if the Fins drafted Decastro, but I keep hearing he is the BPA after the top 6 of Luck, RGIII, Blackmon, Kalil, Richardson, Claiborne. I have heard lots of "draft people" say he is a future Pro Bowler.

We also had 3 ridiculous RBs in Czonka, Kiick and Morris not to mention one of the best defenses in the league at the time...and when we all go back to playing games the way they played them in 1972 we can bring Earl Morrell back to be the QB of this team and draft DeCastro but since that era and that style of play is outdated and long gone we need a QB.
