(from any Dolphins fan in 1998) Did you see the guy we just drafted? John Avery! This guy is awesome! He's been flying up the charts and it's a good thing we took him in the first round because he wouldn't have lasted long in the 2nd round. This guy is flat out FAST!!! And he has moves too!!! This guy will be the next Mercury Morris or Barry Sanders! He even outshone Randy Moss in Mississippi's win over Marshall in their bowl game. Man, I'm so glad we took Avery instead of Moss! John Avery will be the answer to our running and return games for a long, long time!

(from any Dolphins fan in 1997) Yatil Green is a Dolphin! This guy is sooooo good! He's a like a faster Michael Irvin. Did you see the way Yatil kept toasting Sam Madison in minicamp? Although Madison did only play at Louisville and might not make much of an impact in the pros, Yatil toasted him left and right. This guy will break all of the Marks Brothers records by the time he's done and will finally help Danny get his ring. Great choice, J.J.!

To be fair, Yatil was an injury bust. Poor Yatil, he didn't deserve this. He actually made sure there was no holdouts and went to camp early to learn the playbook. Plus he was a class act. :nono:
 
What, if you don't mind me asking, was the point of this thread? Not trying to be a weenie or anything but...

Not at all! Just making a little fun of all the "John Beck=Bob Griese" and "Ted Ginn, Jr. = Paul Warfield" threads. No matter how talented these guys are, we will never know if they'll be great (or even good) NFL players until they play. Call me old or pessimistic, or both, but I have to see a little something from draft picks before I start comparing them to Dolphins legends.

If that's the case then I agree fully. All we can do is wait, see, and hope.

Looks like you missed it too. I'm not saying I hate our draft picks. I like Ginn and Beck (who I have in my sig). I'm just saying it just sounds stupid to compare our draft picks (who have yet to play a down in the NFL) to guys that have been enshrined in the hall of fame. Yatil and Avery were two really fast gamebreakers in college that most of us (including me) thought would be great pros. Unfortunately, nothing is a sure bet. I'm just asking for a little patience.

Exactly. That's all I'm asking. If five years down the road, Ted Ginn, Jr. is doing great, then the question could be asked...is this guy one of the best WRs in Dolphins history?
 
yeah yatil was a good guy and was a very good player... extremly fast... those injurys just screwed him.

I understand where you are coming from. As the poster of the Ginn versus Warfield thread, I think you missed my point. I wasn't so much comparing Ginn with Warfield as much as I was saying they have one big similarity being that you have to account for them on every play --- regardless of production or numbers. Heck one year Warfield caught only 33 passes, but I believe 11 went for touchdowns. Players rarely end up living up to their "player comparisons" or draft hype. But it is May and it's fun to dream.
