John Avery = Mercury Morris

(from any Dolphins fan in 1998) Did you see the guy we just drafted? John Avery! This guy is awesome! He's been flying up the charts and it's a good thing we took him in the first round because he wouldn't have lasted long in the 2nd round. This guy is flat out FAST!!! And he has moves too!!! This guy will be the next Mercury Morris or Barry Sanders! He even outshone Randy Moss in Mississippi's win over Marshall in their bowl game. Man, I'm so glad we took Avery instead of Moss! John Avery will be the answer to our running and return games for a long, long time!

(from any Dolphins fan in 1997) Yatil Green is a Dolphin! This guy is sooooo good! He's a like a faster Michael Irvin. Did you see the way Yatil kept toasting Sam Madison in minicamp? Although Madison did only play at Louisville and might not make much of an impact in the pros, Yatil toasted him left and right. This guy will break all of the Marks Brothers records by the time he's done and will finally help Danny get his ring. Great choice, J.J.!

Ted Ginn IR will be next in line:boohoo:

We all want Ginn to be the greatest Dolphin wide receiver / kick/punt returner of all time. But we're still in the month of May and he can't even run without pain.
Here's more future Ginn posts:
Video Highlights: Kindergarten Sports Day, Flag Football age 9-14, and High School track meets.
His dad's coaching greatness.
Ginn comparisons to the NFL greatest alltime receivers and kick returners. More: "no one will be able to cover Ginn" and "how much Ginn will stretch the field" threads.
And finally: "if you don't love Ginn as much as I do, you suck and not a true Dolfan" thread.
Man I hope he heals fast and turns it loose. We need him.

Not at all! Just making a little fun of all the "John Beck=Bob Griese" and "Ted Ginn, Jr. = Paul Warfield" threads. No matter how talented these guys are, we will never know if they'll be great (or even good) NFL players until they play. Call me old or pessimistic, or both, but I have to see a little something from draft picks before I start comparing them to Dolphins legends.

I understand your point, however..............................

(from any Dolphins fan in 1980) Did you see the guy we just drafted? Dwight Stephenson! This guy is awesome! He's been flying up the charts and it's a good thing we took him in the second round round because he wouldn't have lasted long. This guy is going to be even greater than Dolphin Hall of Famer Jim Langer, Paul "Bear" Bryant said he is the greatest center he's ever coached.

(from any Dolphins fan in 1983) Dan Marino is a Dolphin! This guy is sooooo good! His arm is so much better than Bradshaw or Staubach's. Did you see the way he threw those lasers in minicamp? This guy will break all of hall of famer Bob Griese's records by the time he's done. Great choice, Don!

Just for balance.

Why are we talking about John Avery? Are you implying someone from this year's draft is overrated?

Regardless, we'll never know until they hit the field. Also, John Avery was nowhere near the player Mercury. Poor comparison.....

lol

I thought the thread was pretty funny (and fitting).

And to be fair, there are a lot more of endorPHINS72's examples then yours.

Excuse me Endor...are you attempting to make a point here ?? Can you clue us all in as to what you are trying to say here....Avery and Green are long gone for various reasons...what does that have to do with 2007 and beyond ?
Please, I can't figure out what you are saying here ??

wow ! I mean wow you characters really take the cake. you guys compared john avery to mercury morris ? what the hell is wrong with you people ? must I bring some sanity back to fin heaven. first off john avery should not be mentioned in the same paragraph as merc . that is like comparing dave wannstedt to don shula or sage rosenfields to dan marino. here we go guys lets use some maverick' s dolphin math here.

DAN MARINO = NOBODY
MERCURY MORRIS = THURMAN THOMAS (0ne of osu's many good rbs)
PAUL WARFIELD = Hines Ward
DAVE WANNSTEDT = EX OSU COACH Less Miles (both lost inexcusable games)
O.J. MCDUFFY = CHIRS CHAMBERS (sort of)
RANDY MCMICHEAL = NOBODY (because he was the best tight end in dolphin history except for Mandich and nobody can entertain the dolphin nation and bring colorful insight like the Randyman could.)

:cooldude:

But you know what, whats wrong with some optimism?

Isn't there enough to be negative about throughout most of the rest of the Dolphins regular seasons lately? Without requiring us all to lose our optimism after the draft about the potential of our draft picks?

Larry, my point was subtle. It's easy to read it as "everyone the Dolphins will ever draft in the 1st round will be a bust". But that isn't it at all. Have you seen some of the thread titles around here recently, the ones like "John Beck = Bob Griese" and others? A little premature and honestly, ridiculous. Bob Griese is a HOF quarterback who led our team to three Super Bowls and won two of them. Comparing a rookie QB WHO HASN'T EVEN PLAYED A DOWN EVEN IN A PRESEASON GAME to him is ridiculous. Optimism and hope are great, and I believe that Ginn and Beck can be very good players, but all these ridiculous comparisons are just a waste of space.

I wouldn't count on that.

By the way, did Daniel Snyder buy the Patriots? I really think Belichick/Pioli have either lost their minds. They used FA this year like it was Madden 2007. Randy Moss??? Are you kidding me? Good luck with him! Donte Stallworth??? He'll be good for two or three games until he goes on IR. Wes Welker??? Thanks for the 2nd round pick for a 5'9 3rd wide receiver that runs a 4.7 40 yard dash. One of the most overhyped players in the AFC East. Adalius Thomas was a very good addition on your defense and will be a big upgrade over Banta-Cain, but I'm sorry, your offensive additions have been overhyped and will underproduce.
