The interesting part of the 2013 cap is that the AFC has room up top, particularly the AFC South. To keep their offense together during the Peyton Manning years, the Colts were always tight against the cap. Before a Luck deal, they led the NFL in 2013 with $43 million of room. Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith had a tough 2012, deciding to keep Arian Foster and Chris Myers, but it cost the Texans Eric Winston and Mario Williams. The Texans are fifth on the list with $24.8 million of room.
The Bengals have $42 million, the Browns $40 million, the Dolphins $39 million, the Titans $16 million and the Ravens are eighth with $15 million. The only NFC team in the top eight is the Bucs with $21 million.
Which teams will be tight? The Jets are $19 million over. The Eagles will have to make some decisions after the season because they are $16 million over, but they can offset it with their carryover from this year. The Panthers are $16 million over. The Cowboys are $15 million over. The Panthers are slightly more than $10 million over and so are the Steelers.

Right now projected to have the fourth highest next year. Of course, Jake Long sucks up allot of that. Not sure who our other UFAs are.

And that's after Cam Wake got his big deal. Nice.

Big Jake will probably get an incentive-laden backloaded contract so we can make splashes in next year's FA if need be

They have a lot of players who will be free agents after this season that they need to consider bringing back

Jake Long
Randy Starks
Brian Hartline
Brandon Fields
Sean Smith
Anthony Fasano
Reggie Bush
Chris Clemons
Tony McDaniel

Just to name some of them.

I'd take Long, Starks, Fields, Bush, and possibly Fasano depending how the rest of our Tight Ends do. I think the rest of them are expendable.

Personally I would bring back Long, Starks, Fields, Bush and Hartline. The others only on cap friendly deals but wouldn't make them absolute priorities.

Hartline doesn't strike me as anything special. If he has a good season this year, it will give them more to think about.

I think this is his chance to prove a contract for himself, no Marshall to be forced 100 throws. I hope he can shine, but I don't feel he's irreplaceable.

Other than Long I wouldn't assume any of them are automatic. I agree with you that they have to be a consideration but we would have to see who else is available before making any offers. It is going to get real interesting.

It's wise to get in season extensions now for Hartline, Long, and Smith.

1. If Smith or Hartline have great seasons then you got them cheap
2. You can focus 100% of your energy on bringing in new talent not retaining

Other guys are expendable based on roster depth, direction. I'd like to bring them all back but money might be better served elsewhere

He is solid, not great but solid. At this point he shouldn't be real expensive to re-sign which is why I think they should extend Hartline before the start of the season. I have a feeling he is going to do very well in the west coast offense.

I guess they could. They are probably going to try and use him like a Jordy Nelson in this offense. But even if we don't, we apparently have some money to spend next year, and I'd like to think that there are better receivers out there than Hartline.

I just hope Hartline can actually stay on his feet after a long catch like Nelson

He's probably too busy making acrobatic freak catches to worry about running afterwards

i wouldnt look too much into that number bc we are going to have to sign alot of our players back
