John Clayton Says Dolphins Have Significant Cap Room in 2013

Hartline doesn't strike me as anything special. If he has a good season this year, it will give them more to think about.
imo he is good enough to keep on the roster, he is a pretty consistant player and in the wco i think his play will go up.
alot of players have alot on the line this year

They have a lot of players who will be free agents after this season that they need to consider bringing back

Jake Long
Randy Starks
Brian Hartline
Brandon Fields
Sean Smith
Anthony Fasano
Reggie Bush
Chris Clemons
Tony McDaniel

Just to name some of them.

And if the team doesn't win this year they can ax almost the entire list. There is no need to keep together a "losing unit".

If the team wins, then fine lets keep a bunch. But another 6 or 7 win season AGAIN....and aside from Long there is no need to bring back most on that list. Let them all walk and go get some new players and try it a different way.

We better resign Fields ASAP. Top 3 punter in the NFL, and the only punter to win a game post-AFL-NFL merger.

Available WRs next year?

If Mike Wallace doesn't sign a long-term deal he will be on the market again as i don't see Pitt paying him 120% of his franchise tag salary. I also think a couple other Pitt WR's are FA's as well. But not certain.

I do not see us paying Mike Wallace that much either. Relax and get used to us building though better drafts. A 1st round WR under the new CBA makes a 1/8th of what Wallace wants.

And when you look at that number, think what it would be if we were still paying B Marshall $12 million. Now you can clearly see how we "added" to the team" by trading him.

I'd take Long, Starks, Fields, Bush, and possibly Fasano depending how the rest of our Tight Ends do. I think the rest of them are expendable.

The first person I would take on that list is Reggie Bush! He is the only playmaker we have on this team. After the year Long had last year - I wouldn't pay the guy big money!

Other than Long I wouldn't assume any of them are automatic. I agree with you that they have to be a consideration but we would have to see who else is available before making any offers. It is going to get real interesting.

Why is Long so special? The guy sucked last year! If he has another year like last year I would let the guy walk. They should already be trying to give Reggie Bush a new deal! He is the only stud we have on this team!

Reggie Bush is highly paid and is close to the end of the average NFL running back's career. He is set for a series of one year contracts for the rest of his NFL career.

The problem with Long is that he is one of the old huge contract rookies. Yes, he has made it to the Pro Bowl but I remember at least a couple of those seasons he made it because others dropped out due to injuries etc.

wait a second....so jeff ireland has made Miami's future very viable? while the touted jets have plundered themselves into debt hell?

allrighty then....i suppose there will be an article from ESPN soon saying how much jeff ireland has screwed up the dolphins.

So the guy who worked so hard in the offseason last year and showed the world his best season yet is soon to be done? okie dokie. whatever.

i wouldnt look too much into that number bc we are going to have to sign alot of our players back

you see, what you and others do not understand is that the cap is moving/changing every year. It will surely go up next year or the league will suffer as half the league is in cap trouble.

The other point here is we have resigned players like Soliai with no problems even when we were tight. I dont see any problems and see much brightness in the future. The reason is because this new regime along with Ireland believe in building through the draft. So everyone next year will expect us to go all balls to walls for Free Agents. They wont, they will do what they stated as the philosophy.

Draft good players
Keep good players

Other will just find work elsewhere.

So you'd rather have our QB killed because we didn't want to resign one of the best LT in the league?

Another reason to do hard knocks. We have to shed our unattractive image amongst fre agents.

"the guy sucked last year!"

Shut up.

**** these cap guys in the *******s raw. every ****ing year, duh duh the dolphins got cap room. then when the offseason starts we find out we didn't have a much room as they said. **** them. I want to read we have a lot of cap room after our free agents are signed.

seriously this may be one of the most retarded things I've read. long as one off year, and bush has one solid year and all the sudden long is the expendable one and bush is the indespensible one? bizzaro world.
