I am a little young to recall, so perhaps someone can shed some light. Given the fact that Madden is scared to death of flying, and is forced to take the bus everywhere, how did he pull it off as the Raiders' head coach with road games? Suppose Oakland had back-to-back games in Seattle and New England. Did he actually practice the team at an away facility? Seems like he was at a crunch for time if he traveled from Seattle back to Oakland, practiced for a few minutes, and drove to New England.

I know I was being sarcastic because he is so old.

Hmmm, maybe he called the plays from home on away games. He gets a live feed of the game, and called in the plays via rotary telephones.

Madden used to fly. He said that one time when he was on a flight, the plance experienced terrible turbulence. He kind of snapped right there on the plane and promised himself he'd never be in that position again.

Maybe he should break is own promise. Come on! Who doesn't fly at this day and age? Tell him to try Virgin Atlantic or KLM. With the great services, he'll feel like he was on a bus.

He only started using the Madden bus around 1979ish...so it was after he was coaching i think...

Just confirmed my own information, he had that scary flight in 1979 on a commercial flight, after he was coaching and his first year in commentary. Now he only takes the bus. So he did fly when he coached, and in his first year of commentary he started using the bus.
