Jonathan Martin Alleges Player Misconduct, Dolphins ask for NFL Review

when i went through basic training the drill sergeants were not allowed to do the types of things you see in full metal jacket anymore. they can yell at you and make you do pt. that about it. no cursing, degrading etc.....

No offense, but sounds like your army. Still Drill INSTRUCTORS from the marine corp which is the true full metal jacket is still basically the same. Pretty degrading toward recruits to break them down. Plenty of cursing as well and a bit more physical than people think. I got shoved in a wall locker a few times. And I graduated boot only about 3 years ago

Correct. But until I see that stuff, I go on the statements of other players on the team, who seem to be saying "I didn't see anything like that" and things of that nature.

But again, if it turns out that something really, really bad was going on and Joe Philbin knew (that something really, really bad was going on) and did nothing, I want his head on a platter.

I just have a hard time predicting how I'm going to react to details I haven't even seen yet. Where's the line? Can anybody say for sure where they're drawing it?

no offense taken....and yes it was army

I am so freaking sick of Jonathan Martin. What the hell did we draft with this kid? This is no way to handle this situation. I have yet to hear anything that is so bad that it couldn't have been handled in-house.

His representation is not advising him properly because they should understand how this will hamper his career, including possible blacklisting. Unless, that is, he is giving up on football and has an ulterior motive like coming out.

You bet that will be used against him.
I'm getting sick of the dolphins in general. This franchise just has a cloud of constant **** floating above them.

This is about as bad of a no-win situation as you can get for the Dolphins. Even if these claims are greatly exaggerated (or as Richie Incognito puts it, "lies"), the damage has already been done to the organization. Jonathan Martin may have ended rookie hazing as we know it, a tradition in all of athletics since the beginning of athletics, because this super-PC country of ours won't allow anyones' feelings to get hurt anymore.

The Dolphins cannot cut Jonathan Martin at this moment (even though they should), because that would further damage an (unfairly) bruised image, and Martin could sue the Dolphins for the rest of his contract, just like some players fight for injury settlements.

Perhaps Jonathan Martin does have legitimate, diagnosed psychological problems - Ricky Williams did - that should be known sooner rather than later, because to put the reputation of Richie Incognito and the Dolphins organization through this over a piddle-paddle mental breakdown would be hugely, hugely selfish of JMart, and would likely keep him out of a job in the NFL for any team.

idk....i'm not a lawyer and i am not anywhere near an expert in labor law. but i'm sure there will be financial repercussions if the allegations are true

Agreed. IMO at this point it's all about cheating the Dolphins out of as much $ as possible.

What would be really really bad?

Interesting

We received notification today from Jonathan’s representation about allegations of player misconduct. We are taking these allegations very seriously and plan to review the matter further. We have also reached out to the NFL and asked them to conduct an objective and thorough review. As an organization, we are committed to a culture of team-first accountability and respect for one another.”

I think it's very interesting that the statement says they received notification of player misconduct, but not also a complaint against the coaching staff or gm, which seems to back up Philbin's claim that he was never notified by Martin of a severe problem. Also, The Dolphins notified "The NFL" for a review, but so far mentioned nothing of contacting the players union, (who seems to not want to get involved). If the players union doesn't want to get involved, then it's not a player/management issue. And, it also rules out sexual orientation, because they have a clause for that.

Team Martin may just be throwing a lot against the wall to see what sticks. Right now they seem to be focusing on this 15K that Martin had to pay.

If Martin doesn't want to play football anymore, leaving with a settlement seems like something he's figured out will benefit him. Maybe Martin's lawyers are waiting to see how the NFL responds, if they'll offer a settlement, he'll take if, if they don't, then he might consider coming back.

But personally, I think Martin is all smoke and mirrors.

What would be really really bad?

Hmm, how do I say this without contributing to spreading a totally unsubstantiated rumor?

Let's say that Jon Martin really likes French automobiles. Okay? Like, he imported a Peugeot and he drives it when nobody's looking. Richie Incognito finds out about it, and starts blackmailing Jonathan Martin to keep it a secret. Something like that would be really, really bad.

As far as Joe inviting an NFL Review, it seems the organization did the right things, and is not afraid to bare all to the league.

What a joke. A billionaire member of the club inviting the full billionaires club to investigate him. The NFL would not find fault with the Dolphins unless forced to by some outside entity with more power. If Joe were serious that the Dolphins had nothing to hide he'd request the Miami District Attorney to make the investigation.

Got it.

At that point I'd say Richie and Martin need to be cut. Richie for being a scumbag and Martin for quitting on the team and storming out of the facility.

How is it cheating the Dolphins out of money when by law you have to provide a safe and non abusive work environment? If he sues and wins he proved they didn't provide that. How are the Dolphins the victim here? Oh wait I see he is supposed to sit there and take like a good indentured servant
