Jonathan Martin - Decent Cornfed

A couple of things. First, Jake Long sucks. Second, fantastic write up WV! I think it may have been one of your best to date. Finally, need I remind you folks that the Steelers not so long ago won a Super Bowl with Max Starks as their LT, and I would hardly call him "decent." The days of needing an elite LT are long gone, you can get by with average play at the position now.

That sounds good, so when are we going to get that average play? And Max Starks when he played for Pittsburgh was actually pretty average, so you're right about that. Big Ben played well in spite of his line, though.

I prefer a 1st round QB and a 2nd Round LT = Tannehill/Martin than a 2nd round QB and 1st round LT = Henne/Long . QB is a lot more important than LT !!!!!!

This is really too simplistic.

You're assuming that because some people aren't satisfied with subpar LC play, that we some how prefer Henne or a second rate QB. That's just not the case. I don't think I've heard anyone prefer that. The fact is, that our concern for the LC position to include JM's underperformance .... or to put it a different way .... his lack of progress from last year, is separate of the excitement I have for a promising young QB I have faith in for the first time since Marino.

No one that I have seen is arguing that QB isn't the most important position, but we are, as someone else put it, pointing out that ALL positions are important. And like it or not, a sub-decent LC is a problem.

Again, you'll probably notice that most people voicing their concern, including myself, are not looking to throw JM under the bus. He needs some time develop his pass protection, I don't think that's arguable. The problem is .... right now, he doesn't look like he has, and since as you stated QB is the most important position, the QB's health and well being is problematic with a turnstile at LC. So by your own (and others) argument, even if a LC isn't as important a player, he better be at least a RELIABLE player.

I don't have a solution at this point. I'm obviously just a fan, but I believe it's a legitimate issue.

Its nothing about the round of choosing its just choosing good players with proper priorities.
Choosing Jake Long with no qb, no real receiver and so on was a mistake esp with Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco in this draft

Did you guys see Martin playing well tonight.

He dominated on a lot of plays.

Martin was good tonight, not against the best DE in the world but handled it well

he wont be elite, he wont be a scrub, he will be fine... just what we need

Im not sold on samuda at rg though

In other words, he's decent cornfed.

He was decent tonight, albeit against weak competition. But I'm looking for improvement and he showed it. The right side though ... wtf?

Jerry will regain his spot when he returns, do it be fooled by who's working in TC best guy will start.

I don't think Martin is awful I like his potential but a preseason series or two tell us nothing about him as LT.
I don't think our line will be that good this year but not sure it will be all because of Martin

clabo has to go. he is terrible. I fully expect to see Garner or Jerry playing RT soon.
