Jonathan Martin is retiring

Martin was coddled by his parents too much. They did him a disservice. Hopefully he learns to grow up a little

What a waste of space. Such a POS.

Martin is a snake.

all of a suddden...before playing the Dolphins. Might be thinking about that reunion..haha

count down til the dolphins get sued by him has begun...now that the playing career is over the litigation begins

probably part of a lawsuit he has pending.

retiring due to said back injury equates to lost income, and higher settlement.

just thinking of it through a lawyer's perspective...

And in this case, Lawyer's = Mommy & Daddy.

Out of the NFL three years after being drafted in the 2nd round. And he managed to work it in such a way that he didn't have to hand back a ****ing dime of what he's been paid.

No financial incentives, though.

One of my favorite comments "Being spineless doesn't count as a "back injury"."

I don't think he will sue. However, the way he handled things was clearly motivated by his wallet. When a player simply quits or retires, the team goes after them for money that's already been paid out, as is their right. For instance, all those 49ers players who just retired are having to pay back HUGE wads of cash to the team as per the terms of their contracts.

Remember, when Martin went to David Cornwell, the Dolphins had at that point told him he was going to be put on the NFI list without pay. After he retained Cornwell, he was put on the NFI list with pay and the team began backpedaling immediately.

By handling things as he did, Martin was able to retain hundreds of thousands of dollars.
